BONGAIGAON,
JANUARY 16, 2026
NTPC
Bongaigaon on Thursday celebrated its 21st Raising Day at the plant premises
with enthusiasm, pride and a renewed resolve to serve the nation through
responsible and sustainable power generation. The occasion brought together
employees, officials, and stakeholders as the station reflected on two decades
of growth and contribution to the region and the country.
The celebrations
began with Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, hoisting the NTPC
flag at the Administrative Building premises, followed by the soulful rendition
of the NTPC Geet. A ceremonial cake cutting and the release of balloons in NTPC
colours added to the festive spirit. The programme was attended by Anurag
Gupta, General Manager (O&M), Kasturi Maitra, President of the Bardwi
Shikla Ladies Club, CISF officials, departmental heads, employees from various
departments, representatives of unions and associations, and members of welfare
bodies.
Addressing the
gathering, Maitra recalled that the foundation stone of NTPC Bongaigaon was
laid on January 16, 2006, a moment that opened new avenues of development for
the Bodoland Territorial Region, the North East and the nation at large. He
underlined the station’s strong operational performance, stating that as of
January 15, 2026, NTPC Bongaigaon has generated 3,527 Million Units of
electricity, achieving a Plant Load Factor of 67.56 per cent and a Declared
Capacity of 96.93 per cent.
Highlighting
operational excellence, Maitra spoke of the remarkable achievement in
continuous generation. Unit-2 had earlier recorded 319 days of uninterrupted
operation in July 2025 before being taken up for overhauling, while Unit-1 has
surpassed that benchmark and has been running continuously for the last 373
days. He noted that key performance parameters such as Auxiliary Power
Consumption, Specific Oil Consumption and Specific Water Consumption, recorded
at 2.55 litres per KWh, have consistently remained within prescribed limits,
reflecting the station’s emphasis on efficiency and prudent resource
management. NTPC Bongaigaon currently ranks fourth in the Safety Evaluation
Matrix and continues to feature among the top ten stations in the Performance
Evaluation Matrix across NTPC.
Emphasising
leadership in sustainability, Maitra informed that the station achieved its
highest-ever total ash utilisation of 115.3 per cent since inception. December
2025 marked a historic high with monthly ash utilisation touching 235,683
metric tonnes, equivalent to 313.45 per cent, while the highest single-day ash
utilisation of 10,596.70 metric tonnes was achieved on December 24, 2025. The
same month also saw the receipt of the highest number of coal rakes at 76, with
total coal receipts of 2,84,861 metric tonnes. Overall, NTPC Bongaigaon
recorded total ash utilisation of 113.5 per cent during the year, the highest
since commissioning, underscoring its strong commitment to environmental stewardship
and the principles of a circular economy.
Maitra
attributed these achievements to the dedication and teamwork of the station’s
workforce, describing NTPC Bongaigaon as a unique blend of experienced
professionals and energetic young executives. He said their collective spirit
is evident not only in operational excellence but also in welfare initiatives
and the vibrant township life. Urging employees to continue working with
integrity and innovation, he called upon them to project NTPC Bongaigaon as a
professionally driven, value-based organisation committed to society and the
environment. He also expressed gratitude to the unions, associations, welfare
bodies and the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club for their continued support.
As part of the
Raising Day celebrations and its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility
initiatives, the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club distributed more than 85 school bags
to students of Bhumki Lower Primary School at Salakati, located near the power
plant. The gesture reaffirmed NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to community
development and the promotion of education, aligning its growth story with
inclusive and sustainable progress.
