BONGAIGAON,
JANUARY 26, 2026
NTPC Bongaigaon, the flagship NTPC
power station in the North-East with an installed capacity of 750 MW,
celebrated the 77th Republic Day with grandeur and patriotic fervour at its
plant premises. The celebrations commenced with the unfurling of the National
Flag by Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, followed by an
inspection of a ceremonial parade featuring contingents from the Central
Industrial Security Force (CISF), DGR Security Services, CISF Fire Wing, and
students of Notre Dame Academy.
Addressing the gathering, Arnab Maitra
underscored the significance of Republic Day as a reaffirmation of faith in the
Constitution and the enduring values of unity in diversity. He highlighted NTPC
Bongaigaon’s robust operational performance and its pivotal role in the
development of the North-Eastern region. As on January 23, 2026, the station
had generated 3,630.6 million units (MU) of electricity, achieving a Declared
Capacity of 97.01 per cent — the highest among all NTPC stations. With availability
sustained at 97 per cent, key operational parameters such as Auxiliary Power
Consumption and Specific Oil Consumption remained well within prescribed norms,
placing NTPC Bongaigaon among the top ten NTPC stations in the Performance and
Safety Evaluation Matrix.
Demonstrating sustained operational
excellence, Unit-2 achieved 319 days of uninterrupted generation before its
scheduled outage in July 2025, while Unit-1 has completed 381 days of
continuous operation. Despite high ramping requirements and a constrained
operating schedule, superior maintenance practices and technical discipline
ensured zero Boiler Tube Leakage (BTL)-related outages in both units during the
year. Unit-2 has remained BTL-free for the past three years, while Unit-1 has
achieved two consecutive years of BTL-free operation.
On the sustainability front, Maitra
highlighted that NTPC Bongaigaon recorded its highest-ever total ash
utilisation of 123 per cent as on January 23, 2026. December 2025 witnessed a
historic monthly ash utilisation of 313.45 per cent (235,683 MT), while the
highest single-day ash utilisation of 11,193 MT (402.66 per cent) was achieved
on January 19, 2026, surpassing the previous record. Overall ash utilisation
during the year stood at 113.5 per cent — the highest since inception.
Fuel security remained robust with the
receipt of 76 coal rakes and total coal receipts of 2,84,861 MT in December
2025. The station is currently operating at a Specific Oil Consumption of 0.31
ml/kWh and a Specific Water Consumption of 2.44 l/kWh (as on January 23, 2026),
ranking among the top ten NTPC stations on both parameters.
Encouraging employees, departments,
and partners to continue striving for higher benchmarks, Maitra reiterated the
station’s unwavering focus on safety, environmental stewardship, and Corporate
Social Responsibility.
The celebrations featured the symbolic
release of tricolour balloons and the presentation of the Head of Project Merit
Awards to 35 employees for their outstanding contributions. Awards were also
presented to Heads of Departments who served as Business Excellence Assessors
at other NTPC stations, winners of the NTPC Medha Pratiyogita, the Best CISF
Contingent, Best Jawan from DGR Security Services, and teams from Notre Dame
Academy and ICH.
A special appreciation souvenir was
presented to the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, led by Kasturi Maitra, along with
school teams and CISF personnel, in recognition of their commendable efforts.
The event was further enriched by vibrant tableaux presented by Notre Dame
Academy’s Pipe Band, the Sports Council (FM Department), Safety Department, Ash
Utilisation Department, and CISF Fire Wing, vividly depicting the theme “150
Years of Vande Mataram.”
Simultaneously, Republic Day
celebrations were held across other locations in the township. Anurag Gupta, GM
(O&M), unfurled the National Flag at the New Service Building, while
Kasturi Maitra, President of the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, led the
celebrations at Ankur Tiny Tots. At Notre Dame Academy, Ananta Samanta, DGM
(Vigilance), unfurled the flag, inspiring patriotic fervour among students.
The celebrations witnessed
enthusiastic participation from senior officials, departmental heads,
employees, unions and associations, CISF, DGR Security Services, the Bardwi
Shikla Ladies Club, and family members, reflecting NTPC Bongaigaon’s enduring
commitment to unity, excellence, and national progress.
