NTPC Bongaigaon reaffirmed its commitment to nation building through
consistent operational performance, sustainable practices and impactful
community initiatives during its Annual Press Meet held at the station.
Addressing the media
during the press conference, Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon,
indicated that safety continues to remain the highest priority across all
operations while maintaining a balanced focus on operational excellence,
environmental sustainability and meaningful community development initiatives
in the region. NTPC Bongaigaon continues to play a significant role in meeting
the energy requirements of Assam and other North-Eastern states with its
installed capacity of 750 MW (3×250 MW). During FY 2025–26, the station has
generated around 4110 Million Units (MU) of electricity till date, ensuring
reliable power supply and contributing to grid stability. He further informed
that more than 13 lakh trees have been planted since inception at NTPC
Bongaigaon, with over 50,000 saplings planted during FY 2025–26 till date,
contributing to enhanced green cover and ecological balance in and around the
project area.
Operational
performance remained a key focus area, with the station achieving a Declared
Capacity of 93.72 per cent, reflecting improved plant availability and
maintenance practices. The Plant Load Factor stood at approximately 65.43 per
cent, aligned with grid demand and dispatch schedules. A major milestone during
the year has been the continuous operation of Unit-1 for 433 days, indicating
strong operational discipline and equipment reliability.
In the area of
resource optimisation, the station recorded its best Specific Water Consumption
of 2.50 L/kWh. NTPC Bongaigaon also achieved over 170% ash utilisation, among
the highest since inception, including a record single-day utilisation of
14,737.83 MT along with significant monthly utilisation levels, contributing
towards efficient ash management, sustainable waste utilisation and
infrastructure development.
Beyond operations,
NTPC Bongaigaon has continued to strengthen its CSR initiatives across the
North-East, focusing on education, healthcare, skill development,
infrastructure, sports and cultural promotion. These initiatives have directly
impacted more than 3 lakh beneficiaries, while benefiting over 2 lakh people in
BTR and around 10 lakh people across the North-East region. Maitra also
indicated that, in the healthcare sector, key interventions included support
for ALS ambulances, development of Burn HDU, Eye OT and Burn ICU facilities,
Nutritional Rehabilitation Centres and Early Intervention Centres at Kokrajhar
Medical College, nutritional support to TB patients under Nikshay Mitra, and
mobile medical units along with cancer screening programmes. Efforts in
education and innovation included the establishment of Education Space Labs and
Mobile Science Labs in the BTR region, digital literacy centres across
districts, and development of libraries and smart classrooms to enhance
learning outcomes. Skill development initiatives such as the Lakhpati Baideu
programme, promotion of Eri silk and handloom, and targeted training programmes
have contributed towards livelihood generation and women empowerment. The
station has also actively promoted sports and youth engagement through
development of rural sports infrastructure, support to football and regional
tournaments, including association with events such as the Durand Cup, Sansad
Khel Mahotsav, and organisation of rural sports initiatives for female and
budding sportspersons.
Maitra further
informed that the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) continues as a flagship
initiative of NTPC Bongaigaon, focusing on the holistic development of young
girls through education, personality development and exposure. In 2026, NTPC
Bongaigaon is set to enrol 50 girls under the programme, marking an increase of
10 participants compared to the previous year. The initiatives undertaken by
NTPC Bongaigaon have received appreciation from the district administration,
BTR Government and various stakeholders, reflecting its role as a responsible
corporate entity in the region.
Senior officials including Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, Om Narayan Singh, AGM (C&M), Deepayan Paul, CMO, Sushil Kumar Singh, AGM (Civil Erection), Tapas Barman, DGM (AHD), along with officials from various departments, were present during the press meet. The press conference was attended by media representatives from print, electronic and digital platforms.
