BONGAIGAON, AUGUST 17, 2026
Reinforcing its commitment to building a workplace rooted in
dignity, respect and inclusivity, NTPC Bongaigaon organised a two-day Gender
Sensitisation and POSH Awareness Programme on August 11 and 12, 2026. The
initiative sought to deepen awareness of gender sensitivity, strengthen
institutional mechanisms for preventing workplace harassment and foster an
environment where every employee feels safe, respected and empowered to raise
concerns.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Anurag
Gupta, GM (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon, along with senior officials of NTPC. The
initiative brought together employees, members of the Internal Committee (IC)
and Heads of Departments (HODs), underlining that the creation of a safe and
respectful workplace is a shared responsibility that extends across every level
of the organisation.
The programme featured four focused sessions tailored to the
needs of different stakeholder groups. Two dedicated sessions on Prevention of
Sexual Harassment (POSH) awareness were conducted for employees, followed by a
specialised Capacity Building Programme for members of the Internal Committee.
A separate POSH Sensitisation Programme for HODs focused on the crucial role of
leadership in shaping and sustaining a professional, respectful and
gender-sensitive workplace culture.
The sessions were conducted by Poonam Adhikari, Certified
POSH Trainer and HR & Training Consultant, who brings extensive experience
in POSH and Learning & Development. Through interactive discussions,
practical illustrations and case-based examples, she familiarised participants
with the key provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace
(Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the POSH
Act.
The sessions addressed critical aspects of workplace conduct,
including prevention of sexual harassment, appropriate professional behaviour,
complaint and redressal mechanisms, employee responsibilities, the functioning
of the Internal Committee and the role of leadership in nurturing a culture of
dignity and mutual respect. Practical workplace situations were discussed to
help participants better understand the importance of sensitivity,
professionalism and responsible conduct in everyday interactions.
Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the
capabilities of Internal Committee members. The Capacity Building Programme
enhanced their understanding of the statutory framework and reinforced the
importance of handling complaints in a fair, sensitive, confidential and timely
manner. Case-based discussions provided valuable insights into the processes
involved in receiving complaints, conducting inquiries and ensuring compliance
with the provisions of the POSH Act.
The dedicated session for HODs highlighted the pivotal role
of leadership in creating a workplace culture where employees feel confident
and comfortable in raising concerns. The session stressed the importance of
addressing inappropriate behaviour appropriately and ensuring that professional
interactions across the organisation remain guided by dignity, respect and
sensitivity.
The programme witnessed active participation and meaningful interaction from the participants, providing them with a platform to discuss workplace situations, clarify their understanding of the POSH framework and recognise the collective responsibility involved in safeguarding workplace dignity.
The initiative reflects NTPC Bongaigaon's continued commitment to gender sensitisation, prevention of workplace harassment and the strengthening of institutional safeguards for a secure and inclusive work environment. Through regular awareness and capacity-building initiatives, NTPC Bongaigaon continues to reinforce responsible workplace conduct while empowering employees with greater awareness of their rights, responsibilities and the mechanisms available to protect workplace dignity.
