The Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is set to begin on Tuesday, marking the start of a crucial legislative period that will continue in two phases till April 8. The session will open with its first phase from February 17 to February 24, followed by a recess, after which the second phase will resume on March 9 and run through April 8.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also holds the Finance portfolio, is scheduled to present the State Budget for the 2026–27 financial year in the Assembly on February 20. The budget is expected to outline the government’s fiscal roadmap and sectoral priorities for the coming year, making it one of the most significant highlights of the session.

With key policy announcements and financial planning on the agenda, the session is expected to witness intense debates and discussions.

In view of the Assembly proceedings, the Commissionerate Police has announced a comprehensive traffic regulation plan in the capital to ensure smooth movement and maintain security around the Assembly and adjoining official establishments. According to the advisory, vehicles travelling from Housing Board Square towards Rabindra Mandap will be diverted at Keshari Talkies Square. Traffic moving from AG Square towards PMG will be redirected by turning right at Jaydev Bhawan and proceeding along IG Park Road.

Similarly, vehicles coming from Master Canteen towards PMG will be diverted through adjoining lanes near Lower PMG, while those approaching Rabindra Mandap from 120 Infantry Battalion Square will be rerouted towards Power House Square. Traffic from Lok Bhawan Square heading towards MLA Colony and Rabindra Mandap will also be diverted at 120 Battalion Square towards Sastrinagar Square.

The restrictions, however, will not apply to emergency services such as police, fire brigade and ambulances, as well as vehicles authorised to enter the Odisha Assembly, Lokseva Bhawan and other designated government offices, the Commissionerate Police clarified.
