In a significant step
towards shaping the future of sports in the State, the Sports & Youth
Services Department, Government of Odisha, will host a two-day Chintan Shivir
in Bhubaneswar on June 6 and 7. Conceived as a first-of-its-kind consultative
platform, the event aims to chart the next phase of sports development and
strengthen Odisha’s position as one of India’s premier sporting destinations.
The Chintan Shivir
will bring together a diverse spectrum of stakeholders, including policymakers,
sports administrators, athletes, industry leaders, sports science experts,
academicians, and representatives from sports federations and high-performance
centres. The inaugural session will be graced by Odisha Governor Dr. Haribabu
Kambhampati in the presence of Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi
Suraj.
The two-day
deliberations will focus on critical areas that are central to the growth of
sports and athlete welfare in the State. Key themes include athlete welfare and
social security, grassroots talent identification and development,
high-performance sports and sports science technology, public-private
partnerships for sports development, esports, and strategies to enhance
Odisha’s medal prospects at national and international competitions.
Over the years,
Odisha has emerged as a leading sporting hub in the country through sustained
investments in world-class infrastructure, athlete development programmes, and
the successful hosting of major national and international sporting events.
Building on these achievements, the Chintan Shivir seeks to create a
collaborative platform for dialogue, exchange of best practices, and
formulation of actionable recommendations for the future.
Senior government officials, eminent sportspersons, private sector partners, and experts from across the country are expected to participate in the event, contributing their insights to strengthen the State’s sports ecosystem.
The recommendations emerging from the Chintan Shivir are expected to play a crucial role in advancing Odisha’s vision of becoming a global sporting hub while creating greater opportunities for athletes at every level. The initiative reflects the State Government’s continued commitment to fostering an athlete-first ecosystem, promoting excellence in sports, and building a robust pathway from grassroots participation to international success.
