In a decisive move to enforce
accountability and ensure optimal use of industrial resources, the Odisha
government has launched a sweeping crackdown on industries that acquired land
but failed to commence operations, signalling a firm stance against the misuse
of allotted land.
Industries Minister Sampad Chandra
Swain informed the Assembly on Friday that 25 industrial units have been served
show-cause notices for not utilising the land allotted to them. The government
has already cancelled land allotments of seven such industries, while five
cases are currently sub judice.
Highlighting the scale of the action,
the Minister said that out of 914 closed industrial units across the state, the
Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) has issued
show-cause notices to 665 units under its regulatory framework. Taking
stringent measures, the government has cancelled land allotments of 267
industries, with 81 of these cases now under eviction of unauthorised occupants
(EUO) proceedings.
Officials emphasised that the
crackdown is aimed at freeing up valuable land for productive use and curbing
speculative holding of industrial plots. The move is also expected to create
opportunities for serious investors and boost industrial growth in the state.
Reiterating the government’s
commitment, Minister Swain asserted that strict monitoring of industrial land
use will continue, warning that industries failing to honour their commitments
will face cancellation of allotments and legal action.
