In a major initiative aimed at strengthening agricultural
education and research, the Odisha government on Monday announced a monthly
stipend for Post Graduate (PG) and Ph.D. students of the Odisha University of
Agriculture and Technology (OUAT).
The decision, taken by the Department of Agriculture, will
provide financial assistance of ₹10,000 per month to
regular PG students for two years and ₹15,000 per month to Ph.D. scholars for
up to three years in agriculture and allied disciplines.
The move comes following the initiative of Deputy Chief
Minister and Minister of Agriculture & Farmers' Empowerment and Energy,
Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, and is expected to provide significant support to
young researchers pursuing higher studies in agriculture.
The stipend scheme aims to encourage quality research,
promote innovation and motivate meritorious students by reducing their
financial burden during the course of their studies.
"Investing in our young researchers means securing the
future of Odisha's farmers. With this assistance, our students can focus on new
innovations and research without financial worries," Singh Deo said.
The scheme will be applicable to all regular PG and Ph.D. students enrolled in agriculture and allied subjects at OUAT.
Officials said the initiative reflects the state government's commitment to strengthening agricultural research and developing skilled human resources capable of addressing emerging challenges in the farm sector while contributing to sustainable agricultural growth in Odisha.
