“Odisha is no longer just a state of
possibilities. Our state is now experiencing the touch of prosperity,” said
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday while inaugurating and laying
foundation stones for 36 major industrial projects worth ₹40,811 crore at Bhuinpur in Begunia
block of Khurda district, marking a major stride in the state’s accelerating
industrial transformation.
Describing the
occasion as a defining milestone in Odisha’s development trajectory, the Chief
Minister termed the large-scale investment push as part of the state’s emerging
“second industrial revolution”, reinforcing its position as a fast-growing
manufacturing and investment destination. Of the 36 projects, 25 were
inaugurated while foundation stones were laid for 11 new ventures spanning
green energy equipment, metals and downstream industries, textiles and apparel,
plastics, tourism, agriculture and food processing, defence manufacturing, IT,
automobile and cement sectors.
Highlighting the
employment potential, Majhi stated that the projects are expected to generate
over 59,000 direct and indirect jobs, significantly strengthening livelihoods
and industrial capacity. He noted that in the past 18–20 months, the state has
witnessed the launch or groundwork of 109 projects worth nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore, creating around 1.76
lakh employment opportunities. With the addition of the latest investments,
Odisha’s job creation momentum has gained further strength.
Emphasising the
state’s growing self-reliance, the Chief Minister said many products that were
earlier imported will now be manufactured within Odisha, enabling local
industries to integrate with global value chains. He added that the state’s
strong push on infrastructure, backed by an allocation of over ₹72,000 crore in the current budget —
about 6.5 percent of the Gross State Domestic Product — is significantly
improving connectivity and industrial readiness.
Majhi further said
that the period leading up to 2036 represents a decisive decade for Odisha’s
economic rise, stressing that growth aligned with Odia Asmita (pride) remains central to the government’s development
agenda. Prior to the public event, he chaired a high-level roundtable with
investors from across India and abroad, assuring them of timely approvals and
comprehensive facilitation support, including land, power, water and
communication infrastructure.
Industries Minister
Sampada Chandra Swain emphasised that the initiative reflects the government’s
focus on building a resilient and diversified industrial ecosystem driven by
implementation and results.
Bhubaneswar MP
Aparajita Sarangi lauded the state’s proactive governance framework, while MLAs
Prashant Jagdev and Pradeep Kumar Sahu also expressed confidence in Odisha’s
industrial growth trajectory.
Among others, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma, Adani Ports & SEZ Managing Director Karan Adani, along with representatives of participating companies, attended the programme.
The Chief Minister also visited project exhibition stalls and interacted with industry representatives, reaffirming Odisha’s commitment to investor confidence and sustainable industrial expansion.
