Under the visionary
leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha has emerged as the
top-performing state in the country in completion of houses under Pradhan
Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U 2.0).
Since the launch of
PMAY-U 2.0 in September 2024, Odisha has recorded remarkable progress in
providing affordable housing to urban beneficiaries. From March 2025 to March
2026, the State consistently retained the number one position in India in house
completion performance, reaffirming its strong commitment to the vision of
“Housing for All.”
A total of 24,625
houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 in Odisha. Of these, 23,464
proposed sites have already been geo-tagged. Foundation work has commenced for
3,134 houses, while 2,008 houses have been completed as of May 5, 2026. The
remaining houses are in different stages of construction, and the State
Government remains confident of achieving the targets within the stipulated
timeline.
The achievement reflects
the proactive initiatives of the Housing & Urban Development Department,
effective coordination with Urban Local Bodies, and speedy implementation at
the grassroots level.
Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra has advised officials to further accelerate construction activities and ensure that the remaining targets under PMAY-U 2.0 are achieved well ahead of schedule. He emphasized timely execution, quality construction, and swift delivery of benefits to eligible urban poor families across the State.
Odisha’s continued success under PMAY-U 2.0 highlights the State Government’s focused approach towards inclusive urban development and ensuring dignified living for all citizens.
