Odisha resonated with patriotic
fervour and constitutional pride as the state celebrated the 77th Republic Day
with grandeur, unity and solemn resolve, reaffirming its commitment to the
ideals that define the Indian Republic. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati unfurled
the national flag at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar, while Chief Minister
Mohan Charan Majhi hoisted the Tricolour at Cuttack, marking the twin centres
of the state’s Republic Day celebrations.
At the state-level ceremony in
Bhubaneswar, Governor Kambhampati took the salute as 52 marching contingents
passed in impeccable formation, reflecting discipline, dedication and service
to the nation. The parade featured personnel from the Central Reserve Police
Force, Odisha Industrial Security Force, Home Guards and Civil Defence units,
alongside vibrant student contingents from government and private schools and
colleges, symbolising the seamless bond between the nation’s protectors and its
future citizens.
Adding colour and meaning to the
celebrations, 12 tableaux rolled past the dais, showcasing the achievements,
welfare initiatives and developmental milestones of various government
departments. These visual narratives highlighted Odisha’s journey of progress
and inclusive growth. Five cultural troupes further enriched the occasion with
spirited performances that celebrated the state’s rich heritage and diverse
traditions.
The spirit of Republic Day echoed
across every corner of Odisha as the Tricolour was unfurled in all districts by
deputy chief ministers, ministers, collectors and senior officials. Elaborate
security arrangements ensured peaceful celebrations, particularly in
Maoist-affected regions such as Kandhamal and Kalahandi, underscoring the
administration’s commitment to safeguarding democratic traditions even in
challenging areas.
Extending his greetings on social
media, Governor Kambhampati said the historic occasion should reaffirm faith in
the Constitution and inspire citizens to uphold its ideals in service of the
nation. Chief Minister Majhi, in his message, expressed hope that Republic Day
would infuse renewed energy and enthusiasm towards building a Viksit Bharat.
Leader of the Opposition and former
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also conveyed his greetings, emphasising peace,
friendship and goodwill as the foundational pillars of democracy, while Odisha
Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhakta Charan Das joined in extending
wishes to the people.
