In a landmark initiative to strengthen citizen safety through
digital innovation, the Government of Odisha has launched an advanced Safety
Module on Odisha Yatri, transforming it into India's first state-owned
integrated Mobility and Citizen Safety platform. The pioneering initiative
marks a significant milestone in the State's digital governance journey by
seamlessly bringing mobility and public safety services together on a single
trusted platform.
Already serving thousands of commuters through services such
as auto-rickshaw and cab bookings, Ama Bus information and ticketing, and
boating services, Odisha Yatri will now offer a comprehensive suite of personal
safety features. The newly introduced Safety Module has been seamlessly
integrated with Odisha Police and the national emergency response system (112),
enabling users to instantly seek assistance through real-time, location-based
emergency alerts.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister
for Women & Child Development, Mission Shakti and Tourism, Pravati Parida,
reaffirmed the Government's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and
security of every citizen. She emphasized that technology must serve as an
enabler of accessible, responsive, and inclusive public services, ensuring that
every individual can access reliable safety support whenever needed.
The Safety Module comes equipped with an array of
cutting-edge features designed to enhance personal security. Its One-Tap SOS
function allows users to instantly alert Odisha Police and trusted contacts
while sharing their live location. Users can also activate SOS discreetly
through intuitive gestures — simply by shaking an Android device or tapping the
back of an iPhone — making it possible to seek help even when immediate access
to the screen is difficult.
The platform further enables real-time location sharing with
family members and trusted contacts, while features such as an Emergency Siren
and Ambient Audio Recording provide additional layers of protection during
emergencies. To ensure wider accessibility, the Safety Module is available in
both Odia and English.
With this latest addition, Odisha Yatri has evolved beyond a
conventional mobility application into a comprehensive citizen-centric digital
platform that seamlessly integrates transportation and public safety within a
unified ecosystem. Looking ahead, the Government envisions Odisha Yatri
becoming India's first state-owned Super App, offering an expanded range of
mobility, safety, tourism, and citizen-centric public services. Upcoming
features will include intercity bus services, digital ticketing for major
tourist destinations, and several other government service offerings.
By integrating mobility, emergency response, and citizen
services on a single digital platform, Odisha Yatri sets a new national
benchmark in technology-driven governance. The initiative reinforces Odisha's
commitment to leveraging innovation to enhance public safety, improve the
quality of life, and deliver efficient, citizen-first governance.
