“OMFED is committed to the prosperity of dairy farmers,” asserted Odisha’s Fisheries and Animal Resources Development and MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallick while highlighting the remarkable transformation of the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd. (OMFED), which has registered a historic net profit of Rs. 10.23 crore during the financial year 2025–26. The achievement reflects the success of OMFED’s operational reforms, infrastructure expansion, market growth, and farmer-centric initiatives undertaken across the State.

Chairing a review meeting at the OMFED Head Office in Shaheed Nagar on Friday, the Minister said OMFED has emerged as a trusted symbol of quality, purity, and taste among consumers while simultaneously strengthening the economic condition of lakhs of dairy farmers in Odisha. Emphasising Odisha’s important contribution to India’s White Revolution, Mallick stressed the need for sustained efforts to increase milk production, expand market outreach, introduce innovative dairy products, and implement effective management reforms. He reiterated that the State Government remains committed to making Odisha self-reliant in milk and dairy products.

During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the progress of various programmes and projects being implemented by OMFED, including matters related to milk cooperative societies, dairy plants, milk procurement systems, and infrastructure modernisation. He directed officials to ensure timely resolution of operational challenges and expedite developmental activities to further strengthen the dairy sector in the State.

OMFED recorded a turnover of Rs. 1,036.82 crore during 2025–26, the highest in its history, underlining significant growth in production, milk procurement, processing, and marketing operations.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, Prem Chandra Chaudhary, highlighted the Department’s continued commitment towards dairy farmers’ welfare and rural economic empowerment. He informed that new dairy plants with capacities of 50,000 litres at Sonepur and 30,000 litres at Tangi have been established to strengthen the State’s milk processing infrastructure. He further stated that 1,061 new milk cooperative societies have been registered during the last two years, significantly expanding Odisha’s dairy cooperative network.

Managing Director of OMFED, Vijay Amruta Kulange, presented the Federation’s future roadmap and emphasised the need for a hassle-free milk procurement system, increased milk production, and economic prosperity for nearly 3.28 lakh dairy farmers by 2030. He also stressed achieving self-sufficiency in milk and dairy products across Odisha.

Under the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, OMFED has established 21 new milk chilling centres across the State to strengthen cold-chain infrastructure and improve milk preservation facilities at the grassroots level. At present, OMFED procures nearly 6.70 lakh litres of milk daily from around 3.24 lakh farmers through 4,455 milk cooperative societies. To further strengthen procurement systems in rural areas, 160 new milk collection centres are being opened in different blocks of Odisha.

OMFED has also expanded its value-added product portfolio with products such as Lassi, UHT Chocolate Shake, A2 Milk, A2 Ghee, Balti Dahi, and Gulab Jamun, all of which are receiving encouraging responses from consumers and contributing to the Federation’s growing market presence.

The review meeting was attended by Shri Kishore Chandra Pradhani, President, OMFED, officials of the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation, office bearers of various Milk Unions, and senior departmental officials.
