More than one lakh farmers registered themselves in a single
day for selling their Kharif paddy under Odisha's 2026-27 procurement season,
taking the total number of registered farmers in the state to over 7.18 lakh,
officials said on Friday.
The registration drive, which began on August 6, will
continue till August 31, according to the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare
Department.
Farmers are registering through Primary Agricultural
Cooperative Societies (PACS), Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies
(LAMPS) and Pani Panchayats across the state.
The department said the registration has witnessed a strong
response from farmers, with Bargarh recording around 75,000 registrations,
followed by Balasore with about 50,000, Kalahandi and Ganjam with around 49,000
each, and Balangir with nearly 31,000.
The registration exercise is being conducted at 2,912 PACS
and four Pani Panchayats across Odisha.
The process involves coordination among multiple departments,
including the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department, Cooperation
Department, Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment Department, and Revenue and
Disaster Management Department.
The state government has urged all eligible farmers who intend to sell their Kharif paddy through the procurement system to complete their registration at the earliest.
