The 55th National
Safety Week, observed by Paradip Port Authority (PPA) from March 4 to March 11
under the theme “Engage, Educate & Empower People to Enhance Safety,”
concluded on Wednesday with a valedictory function held at the Officers’ Club,
reaffirming the port’s commitment to strengthening safety awareness and
practices across its vast operational ecosystem.

Additional Assistant Director, Dock Safety, attended the function as the Chief
Guest. Addressing the gathering, he urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant
in identifying and preventing near-miss incidents, stressing the need for
systematic analysis of their causes and timely preventive measures to avoid
accidents in the future. He underlined that strict adherence to safety norms is
vital not only for ensuring workplace safety but also for enhancing efficiency
and productivity in port operations. Emphasizing the importance of sustained
awareness, he said safety consciousness must go beyond a week-long observance
and should be practiced continuously throughout the year.

(Traffic), H.S. Rout, Chief Engineer, and A.K. Sahu, FA & CAO attended the
programme as Guests of Honour. Officials of Paradip Port Authority and
representatives from various stakeholder organizations were also present at the
event, reflecting the collective commitment of the port community toward
maintaining high safety standards.
Throughout the
week-long observance, a series of awareness programmes and competitions were
organized to promote a strong culture of safety among employees, workers, and
port users. Among the key highlights were the Safety Rath and Safety Rally,
which served as major outreach initiatives to spread awareness about workplace
safety practices and encourage responsible behavior across the port premises.
The valedictory
ceremony also witnessed the distribution of prizes to the winners of various
competitions such as Safety Essay, Debate, and Poster competitions organized
during the Safety Week celebrations, recognizing the enthusiastic participation
of employees and stakeholders in promoting safety awareness.
Earlier in the
programme, Susil Chandra Nahak, Chief Mechanical Engineer, delivered the
welcome address and emphasized that safety must be practiced as a collective
responsibility and a coordinated team effort. Abhishek Kumar Parida, Safety
Officer of Paradip Port Authority, proposed the vote of thanks.
Paradip Port Authority reiterated its firm commitment to strengthening safety standards across all operations. As one of India’s leading major ports handling more than 150 million metric tonnes of cargo annually, PPA continues to focus on building a robust “Safety First” culture supported by modern safety practices, regular training programmes, and technology-driven monitoring systems.
With integrated efforts in technology, training, health, and awareness, Paradip Port Authority aims to maintain the highest standards of safety while continuing to play a pivotal role as a key driver of India’s maritime trade and logistics sector.
