NEW DELHI, JANUARY 20, 2026

Newly elected BJP National President Nitin Nabin on Tuesday struck a resolute and ideological note in his first address after formally assuming office, asserting that politics is not about power, luxury or comfort, but about responsibility, sacrifice and austerity.

Addressing party leaders and workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Nabin said the moment marked not merely the assumption of a position, but the acceptance of the ideology, traditions and responsibility of what he described as a nationalist movement. Emphasising the moral foundation of public life, he said, “Politics is not power, it is spiritual practice. It is not indulgence, but sacrifice. It is not luxury and comfort, it is austerity. Politics is not a position of authority, it is responsibility.”

Nitin Nabin was elected unopposed as the BJP National President during the party’s organisational event, Sangathan Parv, becoming the youngest leader to hold the post. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outgoing BJP president J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari felicitated him on the occasion.

Expressing gratitude to party workers and senior leaders, Nabin said it was the unwavering support of ordinary workers that had enabled him to reach the highest organisational position in the party. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that BJP workers have consistently drawn inspiration from the Prime Minister’s commitment to national service.

Recalling his early interactions with Prime Minister Modi during a programme in Anand, Gujarat, Nabin said he learned that true leadership lies in emotionally connecting with the people. He added that the vision of a developed India is now shared by 140 crore citizens, crediting the Prime Minister for giving the nation that collective aspiration.

Expressing gratitude to former BJP national presidents, including J P Nadda, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, Nabin acknowledged their contribution in strengthening the party organisation and expanding its ideological reach across the country.

Highlighting the party’s core philosophy, the new BJP chief said the organisation functions on the principle of “Nation First, Party Next, and Self Last.” He also referred to major national decisions such as the abrogation of Article 370, saying the move had transformed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Looking ahead, Nabin expressed confidence in the BJP’s performance in the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry, asserting that the dedication and hard work of party workers would ensure success in all five states. He also criticised opposition parties for what he described as attempts to interfere with cultural and religious traditions, stating that forces opposing such traditions should have no place in Indian politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin following his address. Earlier in the day, Nabin formally took charge as BJP national president in a ceremony attended by senior party leaders and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states.

As the sole candidate, Nitin Nabin was elected by the BJP’s electoral college comprising members of the party’s national and state councils, marking the beginning of a new phase in the party’s organisational leadership.
