Power supply has been restored to 93 per cent
of consumers affected by the recent floods in Odisha, with the State Government
intensifying efforts to ensure complete restoration in the remaining inundated
pockets under the close supervision of Deputy Chief Minister and Energy
Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.
Following the explicit directives of the Deputy
Chief Minister, a high-level review meeting was chaired by Additional Chief
Secretary (ACS), Energy, Vishal Dev, with all power distribution companies
(DISCOMs) on Saturday to assess the progress of restoration work across the
flood-affected regions of the state.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s intervention
underscored the State Government’s commitment to ensuring the swift recovery of
the power grid while placing the highest priority on public safety in the
affected districts.
During the meeting, DISCOMs informed the ACS
that power supply had already been restored to 93 per cent of the affected
consumers across the state as floodwaters continued to recede. Officials said
restoration work was progressing rapidly in most areas, although low-lying and
severely waterlogged pockets in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts were
witnessing minor delays because of persistent waterlogging and limited physical
access.
The review further revealed that there had been
no major structural damage to the overall power infrastructure despite the
floods. Officials said that failed or burnt transformers were being replaced on
a priority basis as soon as ground conditions permitted restoration teams to
safely access the affected locations.
Reiterating the Deputy Chief Minister’s clear mandate on citizen welfare, ACS Energy Vishal Dev directed all DISCOMs to ensure the earliest possible restoration of power supply while maintaining uncompromising standards of safety for both the public and field personnel.
He instructed the utilities to carry out comprehensive safety inspections before energising any submerged power lines or electrical installations, coordinate closely with district administrations in inaccessible areas, and provide regular updates to the public through media and social media platforms regarding outage status and expected restoration timelines.
