“A degree or a certificate is not the end,”
said Prof. (Dr.) Durga Madhab Satpathy, Director of Medical Education &
Training (DMET), Government of Odisha. “Practice, continuous upgradation, and
serving the health needs of communities — that is our ultimate objective.
Centurion University’s ability to translate scientific knowledge into
meaningful grassroots service is a benchmark for the future.”
Aligning with the
global mandate of “Together For Health, Stand with Science,” Centurion
University marked World Health Day 2026 by turning its campus into a live
demonstration of a unified, multidisciplinary healthcare ecosystem. Moving
beyond ceremonial observance, the university organised a comprehensive health
camp that provided treatment to 450 patients, underscoring its commitment to
the concept of Integrated Care. Specialists from Allopathy, Ayurveda,
Naturopathy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Allied Health Sciences worked in
coordination, presenting a collaborative model of patient-centric healthcare
delivery.
The programme,
inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Satpathy, highlighted the growing importance of
inter-sectoral collaboration in strengthening public health systems. The
initiative reflected the university’s focus on bridging the gap between
academic learning and community service by translating scientific knowledge
into practical, grassroots healthcare solutions.
The health camp
demonstrated a seamless patient-flow model, integrating modern diagnostics with
holistic healing approaches. High-end radiology and diagnostic facilities
enabled immediate clinical assessment, while specialised vision screening
services were offered through the Optometry department. Consultations in
Ayurveda and Physiotherapy further highlighted the effectiveness of combining
traditional healing practices with modern medical science, ensuring a more
comprehensive approach to recovery and preventive care.
The event brought
together eminent voices in public health, including Mr. B. K. Subudh Singh, CEO
of Utkal Healthcare; Dr. Rudra Das, State RMNCHA Consultant with NHM; and Dr.
Subhashree Sethi of Utkal Hospital. The experts emphasised the growing
relevance of integrated medicine in addressing India’s complex healthcare
challenges and the need for collaborative frameworks that combine clinical
expertise with community outreach.
Addressing the
gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Nayak, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Centurion
University, and Prof. Sunil Kumar Jha, Director of the School of Allied and
Healthcare Sciences, highlighted the institution’s roadmap for strengthening
interdisciplinary healthcare education and expanding community-based health
initiatives.
The occasion also
recognised grassroots contributions to public health delivery. Certificates of
Appreciation were presented to students and faculty members of the Optometry
department for their dedicated service in peripheral vision care camps in
Rourkela under the RSP CSR initiative. The programme concluded with a
student-led short play portraying everyday healthcare challenges and
reinforcing the importance of empathy in the medical profession.
By integrating
diverse medical disciplines with a strong orientation towards community
service, Centurion University has demonstrated an evolving model of healthcare
education that balances scientific rigour with social responsibility, setting a
progressive benchmark for integrated healthcare delivery in the region.
