Rabi paddy
procurement commenced in Bargarh district on Monday and is progressing in full
swing across 20 districts of the state during the current Rabi season. A total
of 1,05,494 farmers have registered in the district, of whom 96,377 have
already been issued tokens.
Similarly,
procurement operations will begin in Balasore, Cuttack, Puri and Sambalpur
districts from May 15. For the current Rabi season, 38,113 farmers have
registered in Balasore district, while 3,518 farmers have enrolled in Cuttack,
22,236 in Puri and 19,113 in Sambalpur. Tokens will be issued after due
verification. Extensive preparations are underway in the respective districts
for the smooth conduct of procurement operations. Besides, registered farmers
are being provided with necessary information and tokens are being distributed
accordingly.
To monitor the process effectively, nodal officers have been appointed in each mandi to maintain close supervision over procurement activities. The concerned district administrations have also made elaborate arrangements in every mandi in view of the prevailing summer heat and unseasonal rains. Temporary sheds, drinking water facilities and CCTV installations have been ensured at all mandis.
Farmers are being paid Rs 3,100 per quintal, including minimum support price and input subsidy, directly into their bank accounts within 48 hours.
