Reliance Industries Limited’s
next-generation fabric brand R|Elan presented designer Payal Pratap Singh’s
evocative collection Memories Pressed in Time at Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI
2026, bringing together advanced textile innovation and artistic storytelling
rooted in sustainability. The showcase illustrated how responsible materials
and performance-driven fabrics can inspire contemporary fashion that balances
creativity, comfort and environmental consciousness.
Developed using R|Elan’s advanced
fibre technologies, the collection highlighted the possibilities of circular
and high-performance materials in creating garments that combine durability
with refined aesthetics. The presentation reinforced the growing role of
sustainable textiles in shaping the future of fashion, where innovation aligns
with responsible production practices.
Rooted in memory and nature, Memories
Pressed in Time reflects Payal Pratap’s childhood experiences surrounded by
gardens, foliage and changing seasons. Botanical forms drawn from leaves, palms
and ferns emerged as the central visual language of the collection, expressed
through prints, textures and intricate surface detailing across denim
silhouettes. The designer’s narrative translated personal nostalgia into
wearable art, where nature’s quiet poetry found expression in fabric. 🌱
Speaking about her inspiration, Payal
Pratap said her formative years spent around her mother’s gardens continue to
shape her creative vision. She noted that the prints in the collection were
derived from actual leaves and foliage from her garden, transformed into
artworks and later printed digitally as well as through laser techniques on
denim, creating a layered visual narrative that mirrors memory itself.
Hemant D. Sharma, President –
Polyester, Reliance Industries Limited, emphasised that sustainability,
innovation and circularity remain core to the company’s material science
initiatives. He stated that R|Elan reflects the organisation’s commitment to
developing responsible, high-performance fabrics that enable designers to craft
visually compelling garments while maintaining environmental sensitivity. He
added that the collaboration demonstrates how advanced fibre technologies can
seamlessly merge with creativity to produce contemporary fashion that is both
aesthetically distinctive and sustainable.
Denim emerged as the central material
of the collection, envisioned as a living canvas that evolves with time and
wear. Cyanotype-inspired botanical impressions, tonal embroidery, patchwork and
distressed textures created layered surfaces reminiscent of preserved natural
forms. Relaxed and oversized silhouettes, including jackets, skirts, gilets and
dresses, conveyed a sense of intimacy and ease, while appliqué pleats, quilting
and washed finishes added depth and character.
Extending the sustainability narrative beyond garments, the runway itself became a visual statement. The ramp design featured a dramatic canopy created using recycled PET bottles and repurposed denim scraps, reinforcing the collection’s focus on circularity and responsible design. Models walked beneath the installation, bringing the collection’s concept of memory and nature to life through thoughtful material innovation.
The R|Elan x Payal Pratap showcase at
Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI 2026 underscored the growing synergy between
sustainability and design innovation. By positioning denim as a fabric that
records time and experience, the collection presented fashion not merely as
clothing but as an evolving expression of memory, craft and environmental
responsibility.
