“Road safety is a shared responsibility and
must be practiced every day, not only during awareness weeks. Every journey
should begin with safety,” said Mazhar Beg, Unit Head & President of Aditya
Alumina Refinery, while inaugurating the National Road Safety Week observance
at the refinery’s upcoming plant near Kansariguda under Laxmipur block.
Aditya Alumina Refinery, a unit of
Hindalco Industries Limited of the Aditya Birla Group, marked National Road
Safety Week with a series of impactful awareness initiatives aimed at promoting
responsible road behaviour among employees, workmen, business partners and the
surrounding community. The week-long observance reflected the refinery’s strong
commitment to safety, both within its operational boundaries and beyond.
A range of engaging activities were
conducted throughout the week, including road safety quizzes for school
children and workmen, distribution of reflective safety jackets, and
specialised defensive driving training sessions facilitated by CEAT, Shell and
SANY. A unique highlight was the “Suraksha Rath,” which travelled across 15 to
20 nearby villages, spreading vital road safety messages and encouraging safer
practices among local road users. The “Raahgiri” initiative further
strengthened outreach efforts by fostering positive engagement and awareness on
responsible road usage.
The programme was inaugurated in the
presence of senior leadership, including Ramesh Chandra Duvvada, Head
Construction; P.K. Padhi, Admin & Security Head; Basudev Rao Ghanta, AVP –
Process & Project; Deepak Mohanty, HR Head – CSR, IR & OHC; and Madhumalaya
Dwibedy, Safety Head & Fire Head. Representatives from PMC TCE, L&T,
Essar, ISGEC and Mythri also attended the inaugural ceremony, underscoring the
collective commitment towards road safety.
In his address, Beg stressed the
importance of consistent and disciplined road behaviour, particularly for
two-wheeler riders. He highlighted the non-negotiable need for wearing properly
fastened helmets, adhering to safe speed limits and maintaining lane
discipline, reiterating that safety must be ingrained as a daily habit.
The observance concluded with a
valedictory ceremony where winners of various competitions were felicitated and
crash helmets were distributed to members of the local community.
The entire initiative was successfully
executed by the Safety Department of Aditya Alumina Refinery with strong
support from the TCE Safety Team and the Unit CSR Team, reinforcing the
refinery’s vision of building a safer, more responsible and aware community.
