In a significant endorsement of Rourkela Steel Plant’s performance and
future potential, Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda, Chairman & Managing Director of
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), concluded a two-day visit to the
plant, underscoring the strategic importance of RSP in the company’s growth
trajectory and calling for an unwavering focus on safety, equipment health and
value-added steel production.
Dr. Panda arrived in Rourkela on May 29 on his maiden visit as CMD of
SAIL and was received at the airport by Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge,
Rourkela Steel Plant. Also present on the occasion were Tarun Misra, Executive
Director (HR), and Anil Kumar, Executive Director (MM). A ceremonial Guard of
Honor was presented to the CMD by the CISF Unit of RSP, marking the beginning
of the high-profile visit.
On the morning of May 30, Dr. Panda undertook an extensive review of the
plant’s ongoing expansion projects and visited the New Plate Mill, accompanied
by Alok Verma, along with Rajeev Ranjan, Executive Director (Business
Planning-CO), Biswaranjan Palai, Executive Director (Works), and S. Pal
Chowdhury, Executive Director (Projects). The visit provided the CMD with a
first-hand assessment of the progress of key projects aimed at enhancing the
plant’s production capabilities and operational efficiency.
Following the site visits, Dr. Panda chaired a high-level review meeting
at the Manthan Conference Hall of RSP. The meeting was attended by the Director
In-Charge, Executive Directors, Chief General Managers, Heads of Departments
and other senior officials of the plant.
Describing his visit to RSP as a “homecoming,” Dr. Panda lauded the
plant’s impressive performance and its record-setting achievements across
various operational domains. He acknowledged the confidence reposed by the SAIL
management in the Rourkela Steel Plant and emphasized the high expectations
associated with its continued growth and contribution to the organization.
During his interaction with the leadership team, Dr. Panda highlighted
three critical pillars that would shape the plant’s future performance —
safety, equipment health and enhanced production of value-added steel. He
stressed that sustained excellence in these areas would be instrumental in
strengthening RSP’s competitiveness and supporting SAIL’s broader strategic
objectives.
Expressing gratitude for the CMD’s guidance and encouragement, Alok Verma
reaffirmed the commitment of the entire RSP workforce to achieving the goals
set by the SAIL management. He said that the collective strength and dedication
of Team RSP would enable the plant to rise to the expectations placed upon it
and continue its journey of operational excellence.
Dr. Panda departed from Rourkela later in the afternoon and was accorded
a warm farewell at the airport by the Director In-Charge and other senior
officers of the plant, bringing to a close a visit that reinforced RSP’s
pivotal role in SAIL’s future growth plans and its aspiration to remain a
benchmark in India’s steel industry.
