Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Bank of England (BoE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen regulatory cooperation and facilitate the exchange of information concerning SEBI-recognised clearing corporations.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between the two regulators on matters relating to central counterparties (CCPs), in accordance with their respective laws and regulatory frameworks.

Under the MoU, the Bank of England can place reliance on SEBI’s regulatory and supervisory activities concerning the recognised clearing corporations, while ensuring that the United Kingdom’s financial stability is safeguarded.

The agreement underscores the growing importance of cross-border regulatory coordination in supporting international clearing activities and strengthening cooperation between financial market regulators.

The framework is expected to facilitate information sharing and regulatory engagement between SEBI and the BoE, providing a basis for greater coordination in the oversight of clearing institutions operating in an increasingly interconnected global financial system.
