In a major push to
strengthen industrial safety and foster a culture of accident prevention across
factories in Odisha, the state government on Tuesday released the “Surakshya
Setu: Industrial Safety & Risk Management Manual”, a comprehensive guide
aimed at helping industries identify workplace hazards, manage risks and
prevent accidents.
The manual was released
by Odisha’s Minister for Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Labour &
Employees’ State Insurance, Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia, who underlined the need for
collective participation of industries, workers and other stakeholders to
achieve the state’s goal of zero industrial accidents.
“Widespread dissemination of safety knowledge
will enable industrial establishments, workers and employees to identify and
eliminate unsafe practices and conditions in their workplaces. The active
participation of all stakeholders is essential to achieving our goal of zero
industrial accidents in the State,” the Minister said.
He expressed
confidence that industries across Odisha would benefit from the manual and
effectively implement its guidelines to improve workplace safety.
Developed as a
practical and user-friendly reference guide, “Surakshya Setu” is intended for
workers, supervisors, safety professionals, managers and other stakeholders
involved in industrial operations. The publication provides accessible guidance
on key aspects of occupational safety and risk management.
The manual brings
together essential principles and practices relating to workplace safety,
hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work procedures, accident
prevention and emergency preparedness.
Officials said the
publication is expected to strengthen safety awareness among workers and
encourage the adoption of safer work practices at industrial establishments. It
is also aimed at helping industries build and sustain a safety-oriented work
culture, with the broader objective of ensuring safer and healthier workplaces
across Odisha.
The release ceremony
was attended by Principal Secretary of the Labour & ESI Department, Odisha,
Dodda Venkat Swamy; Labour Commissioner, Odisha and Director of Factories &
Boilers, Indramani Tripathy; Deputy Director (Safety), Dr Malaya Kumar Pradhan,
among other senior officials and stakeholders.
The initiative reflects the Labour & ESI Department’s continued commitment to worker safety, prevention of industrial accidents and promotion of safe and healthy working environments across the state.
With the launch of “Surakshya Setu”, the department has sought to bridge the gap between safety regulations and their effective implementation on the factory floor, reinforcing the message that accident prevention must remain a shared responsibility across Odisha’s industrial sector.
