NEW DELHI, JANUARY 24, 2026

“The Tiranga is the most powerful symbol of our unity and democracy. By honouring these outstanding women athletes today, we reaffirm that the national flag belongs equally to every Indian and inspires excellence beyond barriers of ability or circumstance,” said Flag Foundation of India (FFOI) President Naveen Jindal on Thursday as the Foundation celebrated the legacy of the national flag and felicitated the victorious Indian women’s cricket team for the visually impaired in New Delhi.

The occasion marked the 22nd anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court judgment that democratised the use of the Indian National Flag, a historic movement closely associated with FFOI’s sustained advocacy. Adding a symbolic sporting touch to the celebrations, members of the champion women’s team also played a friendly game of cricket with Naveen Jindal, underscoring the spirit of inclusion and shared national pride.

The programme reflected on key milestones of India’s flag movement, including 30 years of the Delhi High Court judgment and two decades since the parliamentary amendment that affirmed citizens’ right to proudly display the Tricolour. Speakers recalled the pivotal role played by the judiciary and Members of Parliament in safeguarding this democratic expression.

FFOI’s nationwide efforts to promote respectful and widespread use of the national flag were also highlighted, spanning the length and breadth of the country — from Rezang La and Kargil in Ladakh to Port Blair in the South, from Bumla and Nathula in the East to Munna Bao and Kutch in the West. A special mention was made of the installation of the 200th monumental national flag at Imphal, a landmark achievement in the Foundation’s journey.

The event, hosted at Jindal House, was attended by Savitri Jindal and Shallu Jindal, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Minister of Environment Manjinder Singh Sirsa, politician Yashodhara Raje Scindia, and eminent members of the legal fraternity including Retd Justice V.N. Khare, senior advocate Gauri Rasgotra, and Justice U.U. Lalit. Several distinguished personalities, including Gen Bipin Bakshi, former COAS Gen Suhas and Rajiv Pratap Rudy, were also present.

Reiterating its future vision, FFOI outlined its goals of seeking recognition of January 23 as National Flag Day, promoting flag education among children, and encouraging respectful disposal and recycling of worn-out flags. The gathering, attended by members of the judiciary, civil services and civil society, concluded with a lunch.

Founded by Naveen Jindal and Smt Shallu Jindal, the Flag Foundation of India is a non-profit organisation committed to democratising the Indian National Flag and nurturing a shared sense of nationalism and pride through monumental flag installations and nationwide awareness campaigns.
