Reinforcing its unwavering commitment to the Zero Harm philosophy, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has intensified its electrical safety drive across Central Odisha, reaching and sensitising over one lakh people during the year. The large-scale initiative covered a wide cross-section of society, including villagers, school students, electricity consumers, employees and business associate personnel, with the objective of embedding safe electrical practices in everyday life.
The comprehensive outreach combined community engagement with focused capacity-building programmes for TPCODL employees and Business Associate staff across operational areas. These structured training sessions strengthened safe work practices and reinforced a strong culture of responsibility and discipline in day-to-day power distribution activities.
To ensure that safety awareness transcends conventional classrooms and training halls, TPCODL leveraged a robust institutional framework that includes a dedicated Management Development Centre, five Skill Development Centres and thirteen Divisional Safety Training Centres. These facilities are further supported by innovative mobile platforms such as ‘Training on Wheels’ and the ‘Suraksha Sachetan Rath’, enabling the company to reach remote and underserved communities with vital safety messages.
Anchored firmly in the Zero Harm philosophy, the initiatives aim to eliminate risks to people, animals and property by making safety a non-negotiable pillar of power distribution operations. The training modules are designed to build both competence and confidence through hands-on learning in electrical safety, along with technical, behavioural and ethical aspects. Conducted in half-day to two-day formats, the sessions are delivered by experienced trainers and subject matter experts, with special emphasis on roles that involve direct consumer interaction.
TPCODL’s sustained focus on safety excellence has earned national and international recognition, including the prestigious Gold Trophy from the World Safety Organization and the Kalinga Safety Excellence National Premium Award 2025 conferred by the Institute of Quality and Environment Management Services (IQEMS).
Highlighting the importance of these initiatives, TPCODL CEO Arvind Singh said, “TPCODL continues to build a workforce that is informed, responsible and safety-conscious. By strengthening employee capabilities through world-class training practices and discipline, we reinforce our core promise of protecting both our people and our consumers, while advancing our Zero Harm commitment.”
Through its extensive training and awareness programmes, TPCODL continues to set new benchmarks in safety excellence, ensuring reliable power distribution while placing the well-being of the communities it serves at the forefront of its operations.
