TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has reaffirmed its leadership in the power distribution sector by securing an impressive A+ rating in the 14th Integrated Rating and Ranking Report 2025 released by the Union Ministry of Power. With a score of 94.77 among 54 power distribution companies across the country, TPNODL has emerged as the highest-ranked discom in Odisha and secured the ninth position nationally, underscoring its growing reputation for operational excellence and customer-centric service delivery.

Since assuming responsibility for electricity distribution across the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Jajpur, TPNODL has significantly strengthened power supply services in North Odisha through the adoption of advanced and innovative technologies in the distribution network. Over the past five years, the company has implemented comprehensive operational and commercial reforms, enhancing safety standards, improving network reliability, and elevating the overall customer service experience across its service areas. The Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) loss has been substantially reduced from 25.17 percent in April 2021 to 12.64 percent by the end of FY25, reflecting robust efficiency measures. The company has also expanded infrastructure by adding more than 5,500 circuit kilometres of new 11 kV lines, along with 653 circuit kilometres of 33 kV lines and 2,662 circuit kilometres of LT lines, contributing to notable improvements in SAIDI and SAIFI performance indicators.

Demonstrating its focus on addressing consumer requirements and enhancing network resilience, TPNODL has installed over 10,700 Distribution Transformer Units (DTRs) and 78 new Power Transformers (PTRs). Primary substations are now being remotely operated through a centralized, state-of-the-art Power System Control Centre (PSCC) using SCADA technology, enabling real-time monitoring and faster response to outages. The company has also deployed advanced solutions such as underground power cabling, ring main units, fault passage indicators, auto reclosers, trolley-mounted DTRs, underground cable fault locator systems, and drone-based thermography to ensure reliable and high-quality electricity services across the region.

TPNODL has further enhanced consumer satisfaction through sustained improvements in billing efficiency, particularly in LT billing, and by reducing provisional billing to less than one percent. The company has also undertaken major upgrades of electricity substations and transformers that were previously operating under hazardous conditions. To improve safety and prevent accidental contact by stray animals or children, most transformers have now been secured with robust protective enclosures, including solid boundary walls or reinforced wire mesh.

Speaking on the achievement, Gajanan Kale, Chief – Odisha Distribution Business and CEO of TPNODL, said that the company has implemented wide-ranging reforms to strengthen power service quality and ensure consumer safety. He described the recognition as “a testament to the unwavering commitment and diligent efforts of our employees and business associates, complemented by the steadfast support of stakeholders in providing quality power services to consumers.”

Reaffirming its long-term vision, TPNODL said that it will continue to drive transformational initiatives aimed at modernizing power distribution across North Odisha, with sustained emphasis on consumer satisfaction, safety standards, operational efficiency and technological innovation, further consolidating its position as a leading power distribution company in the country.
