TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has strengthened its commitment to electrical safety with a comprehensive set of proactive measures aimed at protecting both the general public and its workforce during the summer season. Recognising that many electrical accidents stem from negligence and lack of awareness, the utility has expanded preventive interventions to minimise risks across its operational areas.

To address electricity-related hazards, TPNODL has intensified public awareness campaigns focusing on the dangers of construction activities near live wires, poles and transformers, along with the risks associated with unskilled repairs, illegal hooking and the use of damaged conductors within the power network. A dedicated safety committee has been constituted to oversee these initiatives, which include school outreach programmes, street plays, wall paintings, consumer engagement drives, public service messages and widespread communication campaigns to promote responsible behaviour and safe practices.

Alongside awareness efforts, the utility is offering practical safety guidance to consumers. It has advised households to get high-load appliances inspected by licensed electricians ahead of peak summer usage and to install protective devices such as MCBs and ELCBs as essential safeguards. Consumers have also been urged to promptly report damaged cables, leaning poles or transformer faults to the nearest TPNODL office or through the toll-free helpline 1800-3456-718, while strictly avoiding self-repair attempts that could lead to serious accidents.

To reinforce internal safety, TPNODL has issued a formal directive mandating strict adherence to operational protocols, including compulsory use of personal protective equipment by field personnel. The company has also invited public participation in identifying unsafe practices through a WhatsApp reporting number (91242-54011), with provisions for incentives to encourage community involvement in improving safety standards.

Emphasizing that electrical safety is a shared responsibility impacting families and communities, TPNODL expressed confidence that sustained awareness, robust systems and active consumer cooperation will significantly enhance safety across the region during the high-demand summer months.
