Demonstrating a
strong commitment to public safety and community well-being, TP Northern Odisha
Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the
Government of Odisha, has undertaken a major safety initiative by relocating
electrical transformers from more than 1,700 school and Anganwadi centre
premises across its operational areas.
Recognizing the
safety of children as a top priority, TPNODL has proactively shifted
high-voltage transformers to safer external locations and constructed robust
protective fencing to eliminate potential risks within educational
environments. By ensuring that electrical installations remain away from
student activity zones, the initiative significantly reduces the likelihood of
electrical hazards in spaces dedicated to learning and development.
The extensive safety
drive has been implemented across five districts to ensure wide-reaching
impact. In Balasore, transformers have been relocated from 567 educational
institutions, while 356 institutions in Jajpur have been secured through
similar measures. The initiative has also covered around 350 institutions in
Keonjhar, 217 in Bhadrak, and more than 250 in Mayurbhanj. Beyond relocation,
TPNODL has reinforced these sites with dedicated fencing and protective
barriers, adding an additional layer of security for students, staff, and
nearby residents.
Parallel to this effort, the company has intensified a region-wide fencing programme for existing transformers installed in public spaces. Protective fencing has already been completed at 781 transformer locations in Balasore, 586 in Baripada, 476 in Jajpur, nearly 400 in Bhadrak, and over 300 in Keonjhar. These safeguards are designed to prevent accidental contact and ensure that critical electrical infrastructure remains secure and isolated.
To further enhance safety awareness, TPNODL has urged citizens to maintain a safe distance from electrical installations. Parents and guardians are advised to ensure that children do not play near fenced electrical equipment, while residents are cautioned against tying livestock to electric poles or transformer enclosures. Emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in preventing accidents, the company has encouraged the public to promptly report unsafe conditions, such as damaged transformers or snapped wires, through its 24/7 helplines at 1800-345-6718 or 1912.
