“As India's manufacturing sector continues to
grow, the ability to create long-term value will increasingly depend on how
effectively we balance growth with responsibility. Building future-ready
businesses requires more than technology and infrastructure; it calls for a
culture where sustainability informs decisions at every level. Sustainability
Month reflects our commitment to nurturing that culture across our operations
and communities,” said Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, as the company
concluded Sustainability Month 2026 across its operations, engaging more than
14,600 employees, business partners, students, families and community members.
Held under the aegis
of the Vedanta Group's flagship sustainability initiative, the month-long
programme was conducted across Jharsuguda, Lanjigada, BALCO and the company's
coal mining operations. It featured a wide range of Environment, Social and
Governance (ESG)-focused initiatives spanning biodiversity conservation,
resource efficiency, solar lighting, water stewardship, waste management,
community healthcare, education and livelihood enhancement. The initiatives
were aimed at strengthening environmental awareness, encouraging collective
responsibility and embedding sustainable practices across the company's
operations and neighbouring communities.
At Jharsuguda and
Lanjigada, employees and community members participated in a series of
environmental conservation, sustainable livelihood and community development
initiatives. These included the plantation of 50 mango saplings, career
counselling support for over 300 students, agricultural assistance to more than
300 farmers, outreach across 10 villages, and a pond-cleaning drive covering 12
water bodies, benefiting over 2,500 people. These efforts underscored the
company's focus on strengthening local ecosystems while supporting community
resilience and livelihood opportunities.
At BALCO,
Sustainability Month reached more than 2,600 employees, business partners,
students, families and community members through plantation drives,
sustainability awareness campaigns and community healthcare initiatives.
Meanwhile, the programme across Vedanta Aluminium's coal mining operations
benefited more than 8,390 people. This included 5,500 beneficiaries through
solar lighting installations and over 1,000 students and young people through
education and talent development initiatives, including SURAVI, a
government-led education and talent development programme supported by Vedanta
Aluminium. A range of other sustainability, safety and community outreach
activities further reinforced the initiative's impact across the mining areas.
The month-long campaign also strengthened a culture of continuous learning and collective ownership of sustainability goals across business units. Recognising these efforts, BALCO secured first place in the Learning Powerhouse Award (Large Business Unit Category), achieving 60% completion in VEDAS Level 1: ESG Essentials. The Coal Mines Division secured first place in the Learning Powerhouse Award (Small Business Unit Category) with an impressive 98.5% completion rate. It also won second place in the Collective Action Award (Small Business Unit Category), with a score of 76%, while Lanjigada secured third place in the Collective Action Award (Large Business Unit Category).
Through Sustainability Month 2026, Vedanta Aluminium reaffirmed its commitment to integrating sustainability into its business practices and community engagement efforts. By bringing together employees, business partners and communities around shared environmental and social priorities, the company continues to advance a responsible growth approach that creates lasting value for people, the environment and future generations.
