Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest
aluminium producer, has further consolidated its leadership in quality and
compliance by cumulatively securing 18 Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
certifications across its smelter operations in Jharsuguda, Odisha — home to
the world’s largest aluminium plant — and Korba, Chhattisgarh, where Bharat
Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), one of India’s most iconic aluminium
producers, is located. Achieved progressively over time, these certifications
underscore Vedanta Aluminium’s unwavering commitment to world-class quality,
reliability, and regulatory excellence.
Marking a significant milestone, BALCO
has secured its 8th BIS certification, the latest covering Aluminium Alloy Wire
Rods under IS 9997:2023. With this achievement, Vedanta Aluminium continues to
build on its distinction as the first company in the Indian aluminium industry
to secure BIS certifications across a wide spectrum of aluminium products in
line with available quality standards. The new certification further strengthens
the company’s capability to supply high-performance materials critical for
India’s power infrastructure, automotive manufacturing, and advanced
engineering applications.
Engineered for demanding environments
where strength, conductivity, and durability are paramount, these Alloy Redraw
Rods certified under IS 9997:2023 are specifically designed for use in overhead
transmission lines, automotive wiring systems, and welding wires. Their
certification reinforces Vedanta Aluminium’s role as a key enabler of
industries that are central to India’s growth, modernization, and
infrastructure expansion.
Commenting on the achievement, Rajiv
Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Quality and innovation are the twin
pillars of Vedanta Aluminium’s growth strategy. Our goal is to achieve 90%
share of value-added products in our portfolio, and we are investing
significantly in capacity expansions and technology upgrades to make this a
reality. These BIS certifications are a testament to our focus on delivering
products that meet the highest standards of reliability and performance,
supporting India’s journey towards advanced infrastructure and sustainable
manufacturing.”
Echoing this commitment, Rajesh Kumar,
CEO & Director, BALCO, said, “At BALCO, we remain committed to delivering
high-quality products that not only drive the nation’s progress but also build
a stronger and sustainable future for all. This new BIS certification reflects
our holistic approach to quality, where rigorous checks, disciplined processes
and a culture of excellence, ensuring that every product we deliver contributes
to building a stronger, sustainable future for India.”
The certification has been awarded
following rigorous assessments by BIS, India’s apex standards body,
encompassing manufacturing processes, product integrity, testing protocols, and
operational consistency. It adds to BALCO’s expanding portfolio of
BIS-certified aluminium products, including Alloy Ingots (Primary Foundry
Alloy), EC Ingots, T Ingots, Wire Rods, Plates, Sheets and Strips, which serve
as essential inputs for the automotive, construction, electrical equipment,
packaging, and engineering sectors.
Aligned with the national vision of
Viksit Bharat, Vedanta Aluminium’s expanding portfolio of certified,
value-added products plays a vital role in supporting grid modernization,
mobility solutions, affordable housing, industrial electrification, and
precision engineering — key priorities shaping India’s next decade of growth.
Through sustained capacity expansion, accelerated technology upgrades, and
leadership in standards compliance, the company is strengthening domestic
supply chains, reducing import dependence, and enhancing India’s export
competitiveness across sectors ranging from power transmission and automotive
to construction, packaging, and cleantech.
Beyond BIS, Vedanta Aluminium’s
products also conform to globally recognized benchmarks, including the
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), S&P Global’s industry assessment
frameworks, and the IATF quality management certification, reaffirming its
position as a global-quality aluminium producer with a strong Indian footprint.
