Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, in
collaboration with the Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Government of
Odisha (Jharsuguda Zone), hosted a zonal-level seminar on “Boiler Safety,
Operation and Management” at its mega aluminium plant in Jharsuguda on Tuesday.
The knowledge-sharing platform brought together more than 238 industry
professionals, including factory heads, engineers, boiler operators and safety
specialists from leading industries across the region, fostering a collective
commitment to strengthening industrial safety practices.
Senior leaders from Vedanta Aluminium, Odisha Power Generation
Corporation, Thermax, JSW Energy and Rungta Sons shared valuable insights on
enhancing safety competencies, ensuring strict adherence to statutory protocols
and adopting innovative technological solutions for safer boiler operations. Archana
Das, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, delivered the inaugural
address. In his keynote, Swaroop Jena, Deputy Director of Factories &
Boilers, Sambalpur Division, underscored the importance of regulatory
compliance, preventive maintenance and continuous workforce capability-building
to ensure reliable and efficient boiler management.

Sharing his perspective, C. Chandru, CEO, Vedanta Jharsuguda, said that
safety remains the cornerstone of sustainable industrial growth. He noted that
such collaborative platforms enable meaningful exchange between industry and
regulators, helping to institutionalise best practices and build a robust
culture of safety excellence. He reiterated Vedanta’s commitment to global
benchmarks, continuous skill development and investments that make operations
safer, smarter and more resilient.
Echoing these views, Swaroop Jena highlighted that safety is a shared
responsibility requiring consistent statutory compliance, proactive maintenance
and ongoing skill upgradation. He commended Vedanta for partnering with the
Directorate to enhance boiler safety standards and operational reliability
across industries in the region.
The technical sessions covered statutory provisions, case studies on
boiler leakages, design and energy efficiency, safe operating parameters and
capacity optimisation. Subject-matter experts from participating organisations
led these discussions, which concluded with an interactive question-and-answer
session. Experts also elaborated on key provisions of the Boilers Act, 2025,
and the Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR), emphasising the collective
responsibility of industry stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of
safety and compliance.
