Reinforcing its commitment to community well-being, Vedanta Aluminium is strengthening last-mile healthcare delivery across underserved regions of Odisha and Chhattisgarh through a comprehensive and integrated health ecosystem. The company’s initiatives focus on improving early detection, expanding access to primary care, and ensuring timely referral to specialised treatment, thereby addressing persistent healthcare gaps in remote and rural communities.

Healthcare accessibility remains a significant challenge in several districts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, where geographical distance, limited infrastructure, and gaps in early diagnosis often delay treatment. Recognising these challenges, Vedanta Aluminium has adopted a multi-tiered approach that connects awareness, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, ensuring continuity of care for vulnerable populations.

According to findings from the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5), issues related to nutrition, maternal health, and early disease detection continue to impact underserved regions. Vedanta Aluminium’s health initiatives aim to complement public health systems by improving access to services and strengthening local healthcare capacity.

Through sustained community engagement and expanded health infrastructure, Vedanta Aluminium has reached over 7 lakh beneficiaries across Odisha and Chhattisgarh. More than 4,09,079 people have benefitted from preventive health awareness programmes, while the company’s three hospitals have recorded a combined footfall of 1.74 lakh patients, reflecting increased access to reliable healthcare closer to home.

A key pillar of Vedanta Aluminium’s outreach is its network of Mobile Health Units (MHUs), which function as travelling clinics delivering primary consultations, essential medicines, basic diagnostic services, and health awareness directly to villages. Covering more than 200 villages in districts such as Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, and Korba, these units play a vital role in strengthening early detection and preventive healthcare.

Beneficiaries such as Aasha Patel from Korba have experienced tangible improvements in quality of life through regular medical consultations and guidance provided by the Mobile Health Units. Living with arthritis and diabetes, she received treatment, counselling, and support on lifestyle management, enabling her to regain mobility and confidence in managing her health.

Vedanta Aluminium also works closely with frontline health workers, including ASHA and ANM cadres, to enhance early identification of health concerns and facilitate timely referral services. Such collaborations help strengthen grassroots healthcare networks and ensure continuity of care for rural populations.

Beyond outreach services, the company has invested in strengthening local healthcare infrastructure to improve access to secondary and diagnostic care. Facilities such as MSJK Hospital in Kalahandi provide inpatient services, emergency care, and specialist consultations for nearby communities, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment. Similarly, the Vedanta Diagnostic Centre in Jharsuguda has improved access to essential diagnostic services, enabling faster and more accurate clinical decisions.

Vedanta Aluminium has also contributed to addressing specialised healthcare needs through the BALCO Medical Centre (BMC) in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh, a tertiary oncology facility providing comprehensive cancer care services, including screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. With 170 beds, the hospital has treated over 66,000 patients and conducted more than 500 outreach screening camps, with nearly 60 percent of patients coming from rural and tribal districts across central and eastern India.

Patients undergoing treatment at BMC have highlighted the importance of having access to specialised cancer care closer to their homes, enabling timely medical intervention and reducing the financial and emotional burden of travelling to distant metropolitan hospitals.

Vedanta Aluminium’s layered healthcare model emphasises prevention, early diagnosis, and accessible treatment, strengthening healthcare delivery systems across remote geographies. By bringing together community outreach, mobile health services, diagnostic facilities, and specialised treatment centres, the company continues to contribute towards improving health outcomes and enhancing quality of life in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
