Reaffirming its
commitment to accessible and equitable healthcare on World Health Day, Vedanta
Limited, one of India’s leading diversified natural resources companies, has
positively transformed the lives of over 30 lakh people through its comprehensive
community healthcare initiatives. Spanning more than 1,100 villages across
underserved regions, the company’s interventions in FY26 have significantly
strengthened preventive care, early diagnosis, treatment access, and health
awareness, particularly in rural India.
In the last financial
year alone, Vedanta invested over ₹50 crore towards healthcare programmes under its social
impact initiatives, taking its cumulative investment in community healthcare to
approximately ₹130 crore over the past four years. Anchored in
a holistic lifecycle-based approach aligned with the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Vedanta’s
initiatives address healthcare needs across every stage of life — from maternal
and child health to adolescent well-being, nutrition security, and the
management of non-communicable diseases.
The company’s
integrated “continuum of care” framework ensures sustained engagement through
preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, primary treatment, and long-term
disease management. Through a robust network of on-ground infrastructure,
mobile healthcare services, digital enablement, and trained community health
workers, Vedanta is bridging last-mile gaps in access to quality medical services
and strengthening grassroots healthcare ecosystems. Aligned with this year’s
World Health Day theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” the company
continues to promote data-driven, evidence-based interventions that enhance
awareness, encourage preventive practices, and improve healthcare outcomes.
Vedanta’s flagship
Nand Ghar initiative has created a nationwide network of modernized anganwadis
delivering integrated nutrition, early childhood development, and healthcare
services at the grassroots level. Complementing this effort, Mobile Health
Vans, medical centres, and partnerships with district and company-run hospitals
are expanding access to quality treatment in remote areas. The company also
supports the BALCO Medical Centre in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh — a
state-of-the-art cancer hospital providing affordable, world-class oncology
care. The centre recently introduced the advanced da Vinci Xi robotic surgical
system, becoming the first private hospital in Central India to deploy this
cutting-edge cancer surgery technology.
Vedanta’s initiatives
are delivering measurable improvements in health outcomes through regular
screenings, timely diagnosis, and continuity of care. Programmes such as
Swasthya Saarthi and Mobile Health Vans are ensuring doorstep healthcare
services, reducing dependence on distant medical facilities. Strengthening
community-level diagnostics, Vedanta’s pathology clinic in Jharsuguda is
enabling timely and reliable testing for conditions such as anaemia,
infections, and non-communicable diseases, facilitating early and accurate
treatment.
Targeted
interventions are supporting pregnant and lactating women through anaemia
awareness and assured antenatal care, contributing to improved maternal and
child health indicators. Community screenings are also enabling early detection
of malnutrition, with critical cases referred for specialized care through
strengthened referral linkages with hospitals across Rajasthan, Odisha, and
Chhattisgarh.
Stories from the field highlight the transformative impact of these initiatives. In Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district, a Mobile Health Van screening helped detect severe anaemia in 12-year-old Komal Gadri from Suwaniya village, enabling timely treatment and helping her return to school in good health. In Bhilwara, elderly beneficiary Ganga Devi received effective treatment and hygiene counselling for a chronic skin condition, significantly improving her quality of life. In Odisha, sustained engagement through Mobile Health Units has helped patients such as Santosh Hans and Draupadi Khaesel successfully manage hypertension, diabetes, and asthma through regular monitoring and treatment, demonstrating the value of consistent primary healthcare support in remote communities.
Implemented in close partnership with government health systems, local communities, and medical professionals, Vedanta’s healthcare programmes are designed for sustainability and scalability. By integrating awareness, infrastructure, and technology-driven service delivery, the company continues to contribute to national priorities such as universal health coverage, anaemia reduction, maternal health improvement, and enhanced rural healthcare accessibility, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive growth and healthier communities across India.
