“When women thrive, entire industries,
communities and economies thrive with them. Their progress reflects a larger
transformation underway in India, where women are increasingly shaping
livelihoods, strengthening local value chains and stepping into roles of
leadership across sectors. Vedanta Aluminium remains deeply committed to
enabling this momentum by creating ecosystems that support women’s growth both
in our workplaces and in the communities we serve,” said Rajiv Kumar, CEO,
Vedanta Aluminium, as the company concluded its month-long Women’s Month 2026
initiatives that reached over 6,000 women and community members across Odisha.
Marking International Women’s Month
2026, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, organised a wide
spectrum of community engagement programmes across its operational areas in
Odisha. The initiatives spanned health and safety awareness sessions,
leadership recognition ceremonies, cultural programmes, enterprise development
engagements and participatory learning activities, reinforcing the company’s
commitment to inclusive growth and women-led development.
At Lanjigarh, more than 1,000 women
from nine gram panchayats participated in enterprise planning sessions in
collaboration with the District Industries Centre. The programme also featured
recognition of frontline health workers, cultural activities and storytelling
sessions aligned with the theme “Give to Gain,” highlighting the importance of
shared progress and collective empowerment.
In Jharsuguda, a week-long celebration
organised with the Subhalaxmi Cooperative brought together over 2,000 women
from five gram panchayats. The initiative focused on interactive learning
engagements, traditional games, community bonding activities and recognition
ceremonies attended by local leaders, strengthening networks of collaboration
and mutual support among women.
Across Vedanta Aluminium’s mining
regions at Kuraloi, Jamkhani and Ghogharpalli, more than 3,000 community
members participated in participatory games, hygiene awareness drives,
distribution of essential items and felicitation of frontline health workers,
reflecting the company’s emphasis on holistic community wellbeing.
As an equal opportunity employer,
Vedanta Aluminium continues to promote meaningful change through initiatives
that expand women’s participation across technical, operational and leadership
roles. Its integrated approach supports women across the entire livelihood
spectrum, from grassroots leadership in communities to specialised roles in
industrial operations.
Aligned with the theme “Give to Gain,”
the company has strengthened its women-first agenda through several progressive
interventions. Vedanta Aluminium has steadily expanded opportunities for women
in roles traditionally considered unconventional through initiatives such as
night shift enablement under the Shree Shakti programme, the Agnivahini all-women
firefighting squad, the women-run Digital Command Centre at Lanjigarh,
women-operated potlines and loco teams in Jharsuguda, and women crane operators
and technicians at BALCO. Women currently constitute 21 percent of the
company’s workforce, with a target to increase this to 35 percent in the near
future, supporting national priorities for enhanced gender inclusion across
industries.
