Remembering the enduring legacy of
visionary industrialist and philanthropist O. P. Jindal, Jindal Steel observed
his 21st punyatithi (death
anniversary) with a series of charitable initiatives reflecting his lifelong
commitment to humanity and social upliftment. Upholding his values of
compassion and service, the Jindal Foundation, the social responsibility arm of
Jindal Steel, in association with Odisha Blood Bank, District Headquarters
Hospital (DHH), Angul, organised a Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Camp at Jindal
Nagar, Angul.
The noble initiative witnessed
overwhelming participation from employees, workers, their family members, and
members of the local community, culminating in the collection of 380 units of
blood to support emergency healthcare requirements across the region. The event
stood as a testament to the collective spirit of service inspired by the ideals
of the revered founder.
P.K. Biju Nair, Executive Director and
Angul Unit Head, Damodar Mittal, Executive Director, Iron Zone, and Swami
Satyabindu Saraswati, along with employees and community members, offered
floral tributes to the visionary leader, fondly remembered as “Bauji”.
Inaugurating the blood donation camp, P.K.
Biju Nair said, “I am very thankful to all the blood donors who have joined
this noble initiative voluntarily and contributed their service to humanity on
the occasion of Bauji’s 21st Punyatithi. I believe this is one of the most
meaningful ways to pay tribute to a person whom we admire and respect deeply.
Though Bauji is not with us in his physical form, his commitment to society
continues to inspire and guide us forever.”
Sharing his sentiments after donating
blood for the 15th time, Damodar Mittal said, “Some people never truly leave
us; they continue to live through their noble thoughts and values, and Bauji is
one such personality who still lives in the hearts and minds of our employees.
We organise voluntary blood donation camps twice every year in his loving
memory, and so far Jindal Steel has contributed more than 10,000 units of blood
to the needy people of the district and the state. I feel proud to donate blood
as we consider it as the greatest services to society.”
Extending the spirit of compassion
beyond healthcare, the Jindal Foundation also provided support to various
social organisations in Angul, including shelter homes, institutions serving
the underprivileged, specially-abled children, and Goshalas. Students and staff
members of O.P. Jindal School paid homage to the noble soul and reflected upon
Bauji’s inspiring vision and values.
Religious observances such as Akhand Ramayan Patha, Puja, and Hawan were also conducted at Devbhoomi Temple and Jindal Nagar Township, creating a solemn yet inspiring atmosphere of remembrance.
Born into a humble farmer’s family, O. P. Jindal rose through sheer determination and perseverance to establish the O.P. Jindal Group, which today stands among India’s leading industrial conglomerates. A firm believer in the vision of a self-reliant India, he made significant contributions to both industry and public life. In recognition of his exemplary contribution to the Indian steel sector, he was honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. His distinguished public service included roles as a Member of the State Legislature of Haryana, Member of Parliament, and Minister of Power in the Government of Haryana.
