ROURKELA, NOVEMBER 4, 2026

SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has achieved its highest-ever cumulative saleable steel production during the April-October period of the current financial year 2026-27 since its inception, reflecting sustained operational excellence and improved production efficiency.

The plant produced a record 24,40,995 tonnes of saleable steel during the seven-month period, surpassing its previous best of 24,29,833 tonnes achieved in the corresponding period of 2023. The latest performance also marks an improvement over the 24,14,785 tonnes recorded during April-October of the previous financial year.

The record-breaking achievement was supported by outstanding performances across several key production units. Steel Melting Shop-II recorded its highest-ever cumulative crude steel production of 21,29,812 tonnes, while the New Plate Mill achieved a record output of 5,98,758 tonnes of plates during the period.

The Plate Mill produced 3,09,645 tonnes of plates, surpassing both its previous best performance and its Annual Business Plan target. The Silicon Steel Mill also registered its highest-ever April-October production of Cold Rolled Non-Oriented (CRNO) steel at 48,175 tonnes, marking a growth of over 23 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year. Sinter Plant-I, meanwhile, recorded its best cumulative performance since 2007, with an output of 8,81,889 tonnes.

The strong cumulative performance was complemented by an impressive showing in October, when RSP produced 3,54,902 tonnes of saleable steel, exceeding its monthly Annual Business Plan target by nearly 4.7 per cent.

The month also witnessed all-time October production records across several major operational areas, including hot metal, total crude steel, Steel Melting Shop-II, New Plate Mill and Silicon Steel Mill.

Hot metal production during October stood at 4,00,183 tonnes, surpassing the previous best October performance recorded in 2023, while total crude steel production touched 3,74,540 tonnes.

The Hot Strip Mill-2 also registered a strong performance, producing 2,20,046 tonnes of Hot Rolled Coils and dispatching 1,76,790 tonnes during the month. Both production and sales exceeded their respective monthly plan targets by 10 per cent and 14 per cent, respectively.
