In a significant push to accelerate Odisha’s transition towards a cleaner and more secure energy future, Adani Group Executive Director Karan Adani and his team on Thursday held high-level deliberations with Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on expanding investments in the state’s renewable and emerging energy sectors, including pumped storage, solar and nuclear power.

The meeting at Kharavel Bhavan here brought together senior state energy officials and the Adani Group leadership to explore opportunities for strengthening Odisha’s long-term energy security, grid reliability and clean power infrastructure.

The discussions centred on accelerating the development of Pumped Storage Plants (PSPs), solar power generation and nuclear power projects, with both sides emphasising the need to build a robust and sustainable energy ecosystem capable of meeting the state’s growing power requirements.

Adani and his executive team reiterated the Group’s interest in making substantial investments in Odisha’s clean energy sector, including plans for setting up two power plants with a capacity of 3,000 MW each, taking the proposed capacity to 6,000 MW.

The latest engagement assumes significance as the Adani Group had earlier met the Deputy Chief Minister and expressed its intent to expand its footprint in Odisha’s energy sector. The renewed commitment signals growing investor interest in the state’s clean energy potential and its strategic importance in India’s evolving power landscape.

The leadership also underlined the importance of ensuring continuous, carbon-free baseload power to complement intermittent renewable generation and enhance the reliability of the state’s electricity grid.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev; Chairman and Managing Director of Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL), Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma; Managing Director of GRIDCO, Dr Satyapriya Rath; and senior officials of the Energy Department.

As part of the engagement, the Adani Group invited Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo, who also holds the Energy portfolio, to visit its renewable energy projects in other states, providing an opportunity to review its clean energy initiatives and technologies.

The deliberations underscore Odisha’s growing focus on attracting large-scale investments in clean and diversified energy infrastructure, with renewable generation, energy storage and reliable baseload power emerging as key pillars of its long-term energy strategy.

The proposed investments, if translated into projects, could further strengthen Odisha’s position as a major destination for clean energy development while supporting the state’s ambitions for sustainable economic growth and energy security.
