In a major boost to Odisha’s clean energy and industrial
growth ambitions, the Adani Group on Thursday unveiled an ambitious investment
proposal worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore before Deputy Chief Minister and Energy
Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo here, outlining a transformative roadmap to
significantly strengthen the state’s renewable and low-emission power
ecosystem.
The investment proposal marks one of the largest private
sector commitments in Odisha’s energy sector and is aimed at expanding the state’s
power generation capacity through a mix of nuclear, advanced thermal and pumped
storage projects, while supporting India’s long-term decarbonisation goals.
During the meeting, senior representatives from the Adani
Group presented a comprehensive investment plan featuring two 3,000 MW nuclear
power plants, 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical (USC) thermal power plants, and
pumped storage projects (PSPs) designed to provide reliable baseload
electricity with significantly lower emissions.
The proposed projects are expected to play a pivotal role in
meeting the rising energy demand while ensuring grid stability through a
balanced mix of clean and low-emission power generation technologies.
The Adani Group has already initiated work on a 1.80 GW
pumped storage project in Nayagarh district, reflecting its early commitment to
Odisha’s clean energy transition and laying the foundation for the proposed
large-scale investment.
Once implemented, the entire investment programme is
projected to create more than 22,000 direct and indirect employment
opportunities, providing a significant economic boost while accelerating
infrastructure development and industrial expansion across the state.
The proposed investments are aligned with India’s Net Zero
2070 vision and are expected to benefit from the enabling policy framework
provided under the SHANTI Act, 2025, which seeks to facilitate large-scale
investments in sustainable energy infrastructure.
The high-level meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Vishal Kumar Dev, OPTCL CMD Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, GRIDCO Managing Director Dr Satyapriya Rath, along with senior officials from the Energy Department, Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) and GRIDCO.
The proposed investment is expected to further strengthen Odisha’s position as a preferred destination for large-scale clean energy investments, reinforcing the state’s role in supporting India’s transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.
