People in the Kansariguda area of
Rayagada district in Odisha are witnessing steady progress in the Aditya
Alumina Refinery project by Hindalco. Along with the construction work, the
company is also supporting nearby villages through initiatives in health,
education, livelihoods, infrastructure, and community development, benefiting
more than 18,000 people.
Locals believe the project will bring
significant opportunities in the future, particularly in terms of employment
and improved infrastructure. Already, more than 1,000 youth from Rayagada and
Koraput districts are working on the project through various agencies, offering
hope for enhanced livelihoods and regional growth.
However, despite the steady progress,
the project has faced intermittent disruptions caused by certain
vested-interest groups. In an unfortunate incident in the recent past, a group
unlawfully entered the construction site and allegedly assaulted security
personnel, resulting in injuries and raising serious concerns regarding safety
and law and order.
Further, there have been instances
where workers engaged through reputed contractors such as L&T, ESSAR, and
other agencies abruptly resorted to strikes on unfounded grounds. These actions
appear to have been influenced by vested corporate interests rather than
genuine local concerns.
It is important to highlight that the
local community has consistently extended strong support to the project,
recognizing its potential to transform the region. However, there is growing
apprehension among residents that continued interference by outside miscreants
may hinder the project's timely completion and jeopardize future opportunities.
Community members have expressed
concerns that such disruptions could be driven by competing corporate interests
seeking to stall the project's progress. They have reiterated their aspiration
for peaceful development and urged all stakeholders to ensure that the project
proceeds without further obstruction.
The Aditya Alumina Refinery remains
committed to working in close collaboration with local communities, the
administration, and all stakeholders to ensure the safe, transparent, and
timely execution of the project. The company strongly believes that the project
will serve as a cornerstone of sustainable growth and inclusive development in
the region.
