ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has organised an awareness programme on the new Labour Code, implemented by the Government of India in November 2025, at its Ghorabhurani–Sagasahi iron ore mine in Barbil. The initiative aimed to empower mine workers through better working conditions and stronger social security provisions. The session was conducted by officials of the Directorate-General of Mines Safety (DGMS) and saw active participation from more than 350 employees, associates and business partners.

The DGMS team, led by N Balasubrahmanyam, Director of Mines Safety, along with U Siva Sankar and K Maheswar Reddy, elaborated on mining safety regulations and compliance requirements under the Labour Codes. Senior AM/NS India officials including Amit Dubey, Satyakama Das, Pramod Mishra and Kamal Gupta were present during the session.

Addressing the gathering, Balasubrahmanyam said the new Labour Codes have created uniform standards that strengthen worker protection while simplifying compliance for the mining sector. He noted that such awareness sessions are meant to safeguard workers’ rights and support ease of doing business. The DGMS team also highlighted the role of the amended codes in advancing women’s participation and promoting gender diversity in mining.

The programme reaffirmed the company’s commitment to a safe, inclusive and progressive work environment across its mining operations. By partnering with DGMS and engaging directly with its workforce, AM/NS India continues to promote compliance, social security and worker empowerment, contributing to sustainable growth in the mining sector.
