Emphasizing the
urgent need for environmentally responsible practices at the grassroots level,
a comprehensive workshop on solid waste management, sanitation and hygiene was organized
for Bomaloi Gram Panchayat at the Aditya Aluminium Project Office “Gyandhara.”
The initiative, supported by Aditya Aluminium, Lapanga, in collaboration with
partner NGO NIWCYD, aimed to strengthen awareness and encourage practical
solutions for effective waste management and environmental protection.
The workshop brought
together key Panchayat stakeholders and community representatives, creating a
vibrant platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing and collective action towards
building a cleaner and healthier environment.
Among the prominent
participants were Sarpanch Saraswati Pradhan, Samiti Member, Ward Members,
Community Resource Persons (CRPs), MBKs, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, members of
Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other local representatives who play a crucial role
in implementing sanitation initiatives at the grassroots level.
Representatives from
NIWCYD, Subhadra Mahapatra and Jitendra Kumar Sahu, provided detailed insights
into the “Lighthouse Project,” an innovative initiative focused on
strengthening systems for waste segregation, scientific collection and
recycling. The project envisions transforming Bomaloi Panchayat into a model
Panchayat that demonstrates sustainable and community-driven solid waste
management practices.
The workshop
highlighted the importance of behavioural change, community participation and
institutional coordination to address challenges related to improper waste
disposal and sanitation gaps. Participants were sensitized on the environmental
and health benefits of waste segregation at source, reduction of plastic waste and
adoption of eco-friendly practices that contribute to long-term sustainability.
By equipping
grassroots leaders and community workers with practical knowledge and
strategies, the initiative is expected to accelerate local efforts towards
improved sanitation infrastructure, better hygiene standards and enhanced
environmental consciousness.
The collaborative
effort reflects a growing commitment to empower rural communities with the
tools and awareness necessary to achieve cleaner surroundings and healthier
lifestyles.
