In a significant
development aimed at strengthening India-Canada cooperation in the mining and
metals sector, a high-level Canadian delegation led by High Commissioner Christopher
Cooter visited the corporate headquarters of National Aluminium Company Limited
(NALCO) in Bhubaneswar on Friday during his maiden visit to the city.
The Canadian High
Commissioner to India held detailed discussions with NALCO Chairman &
Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh in the presence of Director (HR) Dr.
Tapas Kumar Pattanayak, Director (Commercial) Anil Kumar Singh, CVO Pranab
Jyoti Nath and other senior officials of the company.
The discussions
focused on opportunities for strategic collaboration in the area of critical
minerals, sustainable resource development and future expansion plans. Both
sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the mining and metals
sector and explored potential avenues for long-term engagement aimed at
reinforcing Canada–India economic and industrial ties.
Christopher Cooter
was accompanied by his wife, Karen Joan Blumenschein. Other members of the
Canadian delegation included Arjun Kumar Dutta and Rohit Shukla.
Notably, NALCO, one of the leading CPSEs under Union Mines Ministry, is among the country’s top net foreign exchange earning public sector enterprises and is globally recognised for its quality products and operational excellence.
NALCO is also a key partner in Khanij Bidesh India Limited (KABIL), a joint venture comprising NALCO, Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) and Mineral Exploration & Consultancy Limited (MECL), which is engaged in the identification, acquisition, exploration and development of critical mineral assets globally.
