Strengthening India’s growing leadership in sustainable innovation, the R|Elan™ Circular Design Challenge (CDC) winner CRCLE by Varshne presented its thought-provoking collection ‘DIALOGUE’ at the prestigious Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI 2026. The showcase underscored the expanding influence of circular design in contemporary fashion, highlighting how innovation, responsible material use and craftsmanship can converge to shape a more sustainable future for the industry.

Conceptualised in collaboration with United Nations in India and Lakmé Fashion Week, the R|Elan Circular Design Challenge has evolved into a globally recognised platform nurturing emerging designers who are redefining fashion through circularity, material innovation and systemic change. Winning the challenge marks a significant milestone for CRCLE, positioning the Chennai-based label on an international stage while reinforcing its commitment to conscious craftsmanship and forward-looking design narratives.

CRCLE’s design philosophy centres on building a circular ecosystem that extends beyond the lifecycle of garments. The menswear label reimagines wardrobe essentials through a refined blend of traditional craft and modern silhouettes, placing emphasis on texture, durability and functional detailing. The brand’s collaborative network includes more than 100 artisans and over 50 craft communities and material innovators across India, reflecting a strong commitment to inclusive and responsible production.

Its evolving material library incorporates naturally dyed Weganool from Auroville, handwoven Korai grass from Pattamadai, cotton from Chennimalai and deadstock cotton from Tirupur, alongside leather offcuts from Chennai, handcrafted metal buttons from Kutch and repurposed stainless steel elements. Within just 18 months of its launch, CRCLE has recycled more than 400 kilograms of textile waste and contributed to the generation of 5,800 litres of Aarka, a valuable by-product supporting soil health and agricultural productivity for farmers in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The showcased collection ‘DIALOGUE’ explores the evolving relationship between material, maker and wearer. Rooted in circular principles and guided by handcrafted processes, the collection highlights tactile surfaces and thoughtful construction, reinforcing the brand’s focus on longevity, adaptability and design relevance beyond seasonal trends.

Sharing her inspiration, Varshne, Founder of CRCLE, said, “With DIALOGUE, I wanted to renew the connection between the material, the maker, the wearer and the planet. In a world driven by fast-paced automation, we are returning to a more intentional rhythm where irregularities and textures add depth, life and individuality to every piece.”

Congratulating the designer, Hemant D. Sharma, President – Polyester, Reliance Industries Limited, emphasised the importance of empowering emerging talent to integrate sustainability at the core of design innovation. He noted that platforms such as the R|Elan™ Circular Design Challenge foster an ecosystem that brings together mentorship, innovation and global exposure, enabling young designers to transform circular concepts into scalable and impactful industry solutions.

Commending the initiative, Stefan Priesner, United Nations Resident Coordinator in India, highlighted the collaboration between the United Nations, R|Elan and Lakmé Fashion Week as a strong example of cross-sector partnerships driving India’s transition towards a circular and climate-resilient economy that promotes environmental protection and green livelihoods.

Over the years, the R|Elan Circular Design Challenge has evolved into a dynamic ecosystem providing mentorship, strategic guidance and global visibility to emerging designers. By connecting innovators with industry leaders and cross-sector collaborators, the initiative continues to strengthen India’s position at the forefront of global conversations on circular fashion.

In 2026, the platform further expands its international footprint through a special Indo-French edition in partnership with the Embassy of France in India and the French Institute in India, reinforcing cross-cultural collaboration in sustainable design. As anticipation builds around CRCLE’s showcase, the continued evolution of the R|Elan™ CDC reflects a broader shift towards responsible innovation shaping the future of global fashion.
