The 6th
Inter-Department Cricket Tournament and the 5th Corporate Cricket Tournament
2026 commenced in a spirited atmosphere at Gopabandhu Stadium here on Wednesday
under the aegis of Paradip Port Authority (PPA), bringing together employees
and leading corporate teams in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and
professional bonding.
The inaugural
ceremony was graced by Deputy Chairman T. Venu Gopal in the presence of senior
officials including A.K. Bose, Advisor (Traffic), along with Heads of
Departments and distinguished guests. Addressing the gathering, he underscored
the importance of teamwork, unity, and discipline, emphasizing that sporting
events help foster trust, strengthen coordination, and nurture lasting
professional relationships. He encouraged participants to uphold fairness,
safety, and the true spirit of the game while striving for excellence on the
field.
The Inter-Department
Tournament has drawn enthusiastic participation from key wings of the port,
including Administration, Vigilance, Finance, Engineering, Medical, Electrical
& Mechanical, Traffic, and Marine, reflecting strong employee engagement
and competitive spirit. The Corporate Tournament features prominent teams
representing leading organisations such as Indian Oil Corporation, Indian Farmers
Fertiliser Cooperative Limited, Adani Wilmar, Indian Coast Guard, Paradip
Police and Indian Railways (Paradip), highlighting strong stakeholder
participation in this prestigious sporting event.
Organised by
Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad (GKS), the matches are being conducted under
floodlights during the evening, creating a vibrant and engaging sporting
environment for players and spectators alike. The Inter-Department Tournament
will conclude on April 13, 2026, while the combined valedictory function for both
tournaments will be held on April 19, 2026.
The tournament is being organised under the leadership of H.S. Rout, Chief Engineer and President, GKS, and Dr. D.P. Sethy, Senior Deputy CMO and Working President, GKS, whose efforts have been instrumental in successfully hosting the much-anticipated annual event. Employees from across departments have been turning up in large numbers to cheer their teams, adding to the excitement and reinforcing a spirit of unity and camaraderie across the organisation.
This annual sporting initiative reflects Paradip Port Authority’s continued commitment to promoting fitness, teamwork, and employee engagement beyond the workplace, while also providing a meaningful platform for corporate partners and stakeholders to connect, collaborate, and showcase their sporting talent. The PPA has invited employees, stakeholders, and sports enthusiasts to witness the matches and encourage the participating teams as the tournament unfolds in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and healthy competition.
