Dhamra Port on Friday marked a significant operational
milestone with the successful handling of its first commercial vessel through
its newly commissioned Mechanized Loading System at Export Terminal-B4, a move
aimed at enhancing cargo handling efficiency and reducing vessel turnaround
time.
The port handled MV APJ JAOUAD, which was loaded with thermal
coal for the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO),
using its state-of-the-art mechanized ship loader. The operation marked the
commencement of commercial cargo handling through the new mechanized loading
facility.
The development is expected to strengthen the port's
operational capabilities by enabling faster loading of bulk cargo, improving
productivity, and offering greater efficiency to customers. The mechanized
loading system is also expected to reinforce Dhamra Port's position as a key
bulk cargo gateway on India's eastern coast.
According to the port management, the successful
commissioning of the facility represents another step towards building
world-class infrastructure and delivering customer-centric logistics solutions
through advanced cargo handling technology.
Dhamra Port is among India's deep-draft ports capable of accommodating super capesize vessels. The all-weather, multi-user and multi-cargo port enjoys strategic proximity to the mineral-rich belts of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal, providing strong hinterland connectivity and operational advantages.
The port is also one of the fastest-growing ports in eastern India and has set a target of achieving cargo handling capacity of 100 million metric tonnes (MMT) by 2030.
