From mines and
refineries to high-tech smelters and advanced manufacturing, engineers are at
the heart of India’s industrial transformation. On National Engineers’ Day,
Vedanta Aluminium celebrates the expertise, innovation and problem-solving
capabilities of its engineering teams, whose work spans the entire aluminium
value chain and is helping shape the metal of the future.
Celebrated in honour
of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, National Engineers’ Day is an occasion to
recognise the professionals whose ideas, technical expertise and innovations
continue to drive progress across communities and industries. At Vedanta
Aluminium, engineers play a pivotal role in powering one of India’s largest and
most integrated aluminium ecosystems, operating across Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
From responsible
mining and alumina refining to aluminium smelting and the production of
specialised value-added products, engineering expertise is embedded in every
stage of the company’s operations. Every tonne of aluminium produced reflects
the collective efforts of professionals across multiple engineering
disciplines, working together to deliver greater efficiency, reliability,
safety and sustainability.
The journey begins at
the mines, where mining and geological engineers identify mineral deposits and
plan their responsible extraction. The bauxite ore is then processed at the
company’s mega alumina refinery in Kalahandi, Odisha, where chemical and
process engineers oversee its conversion into alumina — the key raw material
for aluminium.
The alumina subsequently
moves to Vedanta Aluminium’s smelters in Jharsuguda, Odisha, and Korba,
Chhattisgarh, where metallurgical engineers oversee its transformation into
molten aluminium through electrolysis. Mechanical and product development
engineers then help convert the metal into a diverse range of products,
including billets, wire rods, primary foundry alloys, slabs and rolled
products, catering to critical sectors such as electric mobility, renewable
energy, infrastructure and aerospace.
Supporting this integrated
ecosystem are civil, structural, safety and environmental engineers, who help
build and maintain resilient infrastructure, enable safe and reliable
operations, and advance responsible resource management. Together, these
diverse engineering disciplines transform a natural resource into a versatile
material that is increasingly central to the technologies and industries of
tomorrow.

In FY26, the company produced 2.45 million tonnes of aluminium — more than half
