NEW DELHI, JULY 7, 2026

India's electric vehicle (EV) market continued its rapid expansion in June 2026, with retail sales witnessing robust double-digit growth across all major vehicle segments. Electric passenger vehicles more than doubled their sales over the previous year, while electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles also recorded impressive gains, reflecting rising consumer confidence, expanding product offerings and improving charging infrastructure.

According to the latest retail sales data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), electric passenger vehicle (PV) sales emerged as the strongest performer among mainstream segments, registering a remarkable 107.75 per cent year-on-year growth. Retail sales climbed to 31,823 units in June 2026, compared with 15,318 units in the corresponding month last year.

The momentum was equally strong on a month-on-month basis, with electric passenger vehicle sales rising 19.27 per cent from 26,682 units sold in May 2026. The sustained growth also translated into a higher market presence, with EVs accounting for 7.7 per cent of total passenger vehicle retail sales during June, up from 6.6 per cent in May and 4.8 per cent in June 2025.

The electric two-wheeler segment, which remains the largest contributor to India's EV ecosystem by volume, also delivered a stellar performance. Retail sales surged 74.98 per cent year-on-year to 1,93,735 units in June 2026 from 1,10,719 units a year earlier.

Compared with May 2026, when dealers retailed 1,70,733 electric two-wheelers, sales increased by 13.47 per cent, highlighting sustained consumer demand despite seasonal market fluctuations. The segment's market share also strengthened significantly, rising to 10.6 per cent in June from 9.3 per cent in May and 7.0 per cent in June last year.

Electric three-wheelers continued to reinforce their dominance in the category, maintaining the highest level of EV penetration among all vehicle segments. Retail sales increased 27.38 per cent year-on-year to 77,448 units in June 2026, compared with 60,802 units sold in the same month of 2025.

Sequentially, sales grew 7.77 per cent over May 2026, when 71,867 units were retailed. Electric three-wheelers captured 64.1 per cent of the overall three-wheeler market during June, remaining the dominant technology in the segment. Their market share stood at 64.4 per cent in May 2026 and 58.4 per cent in June 2025, underscoring the rapid electrification of last-mile mobility and commercial transport.

The commercial electric vehicle segment recorded the fastest percentage growth among all categories. Retail sales soared 163.7 per cent year-on-year to 3,214 units in June 2026, compared with just 1,219 units in the corresponding month last year.

On a month-on-month basis, commercial EV sales jumped 33.92 per cent from 2,400 units sold in May 2026. Their market share also expanded steadily, reaching 3.53 per cent in June, up from 2.86 per cent in May and 1.57 per cent in June 2025.

The latest FADA data indicates that India's transition towards electric mobility continues to gather pace across both personal and commercial transportation segments. Rising consumer acceptance, increasing availability of new EV models, expanding charging infrastructure and supportive government policies are collectively driving higher adoption levels.

The sharp increase in market share across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles highlights the growing mainstream acceptance of electric mobility and signals sustained momentum for the country's clean transportation ambitions. As manufacturers continue to introduce new products and strengthen their distribution networks, the EV industry is expected to maintain its strong growth trajectory in the coming months.
