Emphasizing that every citizen has a role in building a balanced and value-driven nation, President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said that the practice of Karmayoga can power India’s journey towards sustainable and holistic development.

The President was inaugurating an All-India Conference of the Brahma Kumaris and launching its nationwide campaign, Karmayoga for Empowered Bharat, in the national capital. She also formally commenced the silver jubilee celebrations of the Om Shanti Retreat Centre, describing the institution as a significant centre for spiritual learning and value-based living.

Highlighting the need to harmonise material progress with moral consciousness, the President said that economic growth and technological advancement are vital for prosperity, innovation and efficiency, but warned that development devoid of ethical foundations can deepen social inequalities, damage the environment and marginalise vulnerable communities. Technology, she noted, can become destructive if not guided by human values.

Stressing the role of spirituality in governance and public life, she said that a moral framework rooted in compassion, integrity and non-violence enables leaders to take just and inclusive decisions that benefit all sections of society. Such fairness in public administration strengthens trust and ensures social stability.

President Murmu observed that the teachings of Rajayoga promote not only introspection but also responsible action through Karmayoga — the practice of performing one’s duties with a spirit of selfless service and higher purpose. She expressed satisfaction that millions associated with the Brahma Kumaris are applying these principles in their daily lives, thereby contributing to social harmony and ethical living.

Calling for collective participation in nation-building, the President said that when citizens align their thoughts and actions with spiritual values, they rise above narrow self-interest and work for the welfare of all. This, she added, will enable India to achieve not only economic progress but also emerge as a global model of a just, peaceful and value-based society.
