As part of the
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s “Month of Solar” initiative, TP Southern
Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the
Government of Odisha, has intensified efforts to promote rooftop solar adoption
across the eight Southern Districts of Odisha - Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal,
Boudh, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri. To strengthen
implementation and improve consumer service delivery, TPSODL organized a
stakeholder and vendor meet involving solar vendors, senior officials, and REC
representatives, focusing on simplifying installation processes and
accelerating clean energy adoption.
Aligned with this
initiative, TPSODL organized a stakeholder and vendor meeting to streamline the
process of rooftop solar installation and accelerate consumer service delivery.
The meeting brought together more than 30 solar vendors, senior TPSODL
officials, and representatives from the Rural Electrification Corporation
(REC).
The discussion
focused on enhancing coordination among stakeholders, streamlining the rooftop
solar installation process, and encouraging greater consumer adoption of clean
and green energy solutions under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY)
and the ULA Model. Consumers embracing solar energy are also experiencing
reduced electricity bills, making rooftop solar an affordable and
environmentally friendly choice for households.
The ULA Model is
emerging as a highly affordable solution for consumers, offering 1 kW rooftop
solar systems at just ₹1,875,
which is enabling more households to adopt clean energy with minimal upfront
cost.
As part of its
ongoing “Month of Solar” campaign, TPSODL has recorded an encouraging response
from consumers across the region. During May alone, the company received a
total of 12,658 applications for rooftop solar installations.
Of these, 1,253
applications were submitted under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
(PMSGMBY), while 11,405 applications were received under the ULA Model. Among
the ULA applications, Phulbani emerged as the top-performing district with
4,771 applications, followed by Nabarangpur with 2,989 applications.
This strong
participation highlights the growing consumer interest in adopting sustainable
energy solutions and reinforces TPSODL’s commitment to promoting clean,
affordable, and reliable power for households in Southern Odisha.
Overall, across
Southern Odisha, around 50,000 applications have been received so far under PM
Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Among them, 11,000 consumers have already
installed rooftop solar systems in their homes, contributing significantly
towards clean energy generation and sustainable power usage.
Notably, out of the
11,000 consumers who installed rooftop solar systems, 6,391 consumers have
already received both Central Financial Assistance (CFA) and State Financial
Assistance (SFA), further encouraging large-scale adoption of solar energy in
the region.
Speaking on the initiative, Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, “The ‘Month of Solar’ is an important opportunity to create awareness and encourage consumers to adopt sustainable energy solutions. TPSODL is committed to supporting every consumer in their solar journey by simplifying processes, strengthening vendor coordination, and ensuring timely assistance. Rooftop solar is not only helping consumers reduce electricity bills but also contributing towards a greener and energy-secure future for southern Odisha.”
TPSODL continues to undertake various awareness and outreach activities across its operational areas to promote renewable energy adoption and support the Government of India’s vision for sustainable and clean energy development.
